Can I switch a mongul to a medium?

I have a 150watt HPS, security light converted to a growin' light...
I was shopping for a new bulb and noticed how small the medium base hps lights are!
Can I buy a medium base just swap it with the mogul base?

The smaller light would really help with the airflow in my cooltube and I can definately use that to my advantage...

If so, where can I find just a medium base socket? I don't want to buy a whole light kit...

As long as you use a medium base bulb and the ballast meets the ANSI specs, then yeah...it'll be fine to swap the bulb and mogul socket out. Most 150w ballasts are capable of running either bulb, but double check first just incase yours requires a certain bulb type.

That one should work fine with a E17 shaped 150w bulb (medium base) and the corresponding E26 base (medium base). You can probably pick up a bulb at an electrical supply house for around $10 for it...just specify E17 150w HPS.
