depends on the plant in question basically.

If we are talking a lanky narrow leaf, at week 3 you should have buds forming already but the stems will be flexible enough to bend the plant in a way that will let light reach to where you want it to reach, but without lollipoping all the way. but that will also depend on how much space you have to bend...

some plants won't take lst well, much less lollipoping, you need to make sure this plant won't break if you try it. only you can tell at this point.

good luck!

Sometimes I still lollipop a little in week 3. Most of the lollipoping is done before that though. If the plant is still stretching, prob a safe bet you can still lollipop some.

@ bombadil the plant in question is a an indica dominant strain called aurora indica.and yes I do have bud sites forming already.and I lollipoped decently 2 weeks before flipping.but I have 16 plants at about 2 - 3 feet tall in a 5 by 5 grow space with a Mars 1200 led so I have to do all that I can to get the full light penetration.based on last grow the light is decent but in a bushy canopy its effect diminishes after about a foot down the canopy

But thanks guys I won't trim anything else off the ladies.i got around 11 oz from 4 plants with minimal lollipoping with the Mars 1200 led.so in gonna train these ladies in veg as if I was going to scrog it without the screen so we'll have the true sog effect

I've always lollypopped anytime I think it is needed. I've done it late in bloom. It's not like topping them after switching to 12/12. Same principle holds. Remove the trash and the big top buds get the benefit. If it were me, I'd lollypop one plant anyway for comparison, and learn from it. Good luck. -granger

I grow mainly 5 to 6 footers and lollypop throughout, no problems that I see.

I'm in week 2 of a pretty tight sog style grow (6 plants, 5-6 branches ea. ) and I've done most of my pruning and trimming as well as thinning out a good portion of the inner vegetation, overlapping fan leaves etc. I plan on having to do some bending and more thinning as I'm going into week 3. I've been told into week 3 is fine, either way you should be fine to do it now, if you do actually do a comparison I'm definitely interested in results. I have yet to grow a plant and not manipulate it.

I have a question if anyone cares to help, after budset and stretching stops how much does the average plant continue to grow vertical? I have 400w hps @ 12" and only 6" left to raise.

Can always defoliate heavy.... Certain strains like different things ... Ai is was a tough one .... Should be fine.... I'd do like granger said but also defoliate a tester or to ....

some varieties will die if you defoliate too much when they are in flowering mode already. Too much water will be lost healing all the places to where leaves were attached to.

this just happened to 1 out of 4 plants I had flowering... defoliated all the lower leaves, two days later, the plant had stopped taking in water and was drying quite quickly under the COBs they were under. Same defoliation on the 4 plants... 3 reacted as expected, 1 died. These were all branchy blue moon rocks btw, not columnar single cola plants.

defoliation works great if you do it on plants that can take it, and personally, I do not know before hand which ones will and which ones will not at this point. except of course columnar single cola plants, I do not defoliate at all, maybe a fan leaf here and there, but not even.

when a plant is flowering, it can be damaged more easily than when it is vegging, because it has more fluid uptake to form flowers, and when that uptake is affected by needing to heal and close up wounds, it can die pretty quickly, is what I'm seeing.

peace
