Can I keep a 3 foot mom alive with a15 watt fluorescent?

Hey all! I have access to a once in a blue moon 3 foot mom that I want to purchase to grow outdoors this summer. Obviously, the guy can’t guarantee it will be around in May so I’m wondering if I used a 15 watt fluorescent bulb from a fish aquarium, would I be able to keep it alive until May when I can put it in the ground? What about a 5 footer? If not, what would you guys suggest for either of these heights?

Short answer no. Go buy some 25w 6700k Daylight CFL's from the store, about 3 of them. That should be enough to keep the plant from going into shock. Keep it on a 18/6 light schedule so the plant doesnt go into flowering when you plant it outside. Dont use any nutrients unless it looks weak because you don't want it to grow to much indoors I am assuming. What strain of plant is this? Do you want it to grow all summer and flower in the fall or start to flower in april?

I have actually started an indoor grow in March that was compromised so I had to transfer them outdoors. This plant is already pretty far along though, I would like to see if you can make this work. Do you have an out door location selected?

It is a purple variety. An 8 week strain.

I want to plant in mid may and harvest in October.

I will be planting in my back yard. I live in California and am a Prop 215 patient. 

Thanks for the advice. So if I left it on a 24 hour cycle, it will flower if I put it outside even if I’m getting tons of sunlight?

Hey Jon,

if you leave it on 24/0 when you take them outside the big change in night day should kick them into flower quicker than if you did 18/6.

Last year i put some plants out late late april 3 of them flowered, 1 of them started then stopped. i think the days just ran too long and it went back into veg.

also regarding the 15w cfl. i agree with micro, if your in so cal, go to walmart or target you can get 26w cfl 3 packs for liek 12-15 bucks.

and just one more thought, if your 215 compiant why just have 1? take some clones grow em out and have your legal 6 or 8 depending where you are.

I only want one tree. The rest will be 6 inch clones I will put out in May. It's pretty easy to find clones at dispensaries around April but tough to find moms that's why I want to invest now.

Why do you think that? Will it get burned? Like every year, I plan on tempering it until its used to the sun.

If you truly want the plant to flower in late summer, it will be tricky to keep it in vegetative state that long. It will already be 4 months into veg ? I honestly don't see that happening now.

The plant will go straight into the flowering stage when placed outside after a 3 month or over grow indoors. The reason for this is early summer you only get about what 13-14 hours of light? That is the trigger right there. Your highest likelyhood of success would either to take it outside mid july with 16 hours of sun, or get that puppy outside ASAP. So the key for you will be to get the plant out before the 3 month barrier. When is that date?

Also I think your best shot is to use a 16/8 light schedule with medium to little lighting to sort of keep the plant is a slow growing limbo state either way. Just keep it alive with no nuts, just good soil and atleast 2-3 points of 25w light.
