can fishing line keep animals away?

I'm looking for a way to keep animals, especially rabbits and deer, from eating my plants. I want to do this without chicken wire fence though.

I was thinking of stabbing some thin & strong tree branches into the ground, and wrap fishing line around them at 6 inch intervals to a height of three feet. Will rabbits bother trying to get to the plant? Or does planting in thorns/blackberry bushes keep animals away from the MJ?

Any ideas, suggestions, and comments welcome! Thanks! :woohoo:

what i have done to keep the varmits and deer out is put a circular cage around my plants, didnt have any problems with the big animals, just grasshoppers.......the thing with fishing line is if there is a big deer walking around it can trip and possibly get caught up in it(moral issues)....but i guess it all depends on the area you are growing in. good luck with your situation

If you make small cages about 2 feet high and a foot of so across that will usually let the plant get big enough until mother nature gives animals other things to feed on.

Lots of animals are attracted to the sweet buds though, and heck, maybe even the effects :joint: Even a full-grown plant would be susceptible to animals nibbling at her I would think. I'd say if you're in that much wilderness, cages are probably your best if not only real option. Might be a pain, but it may be a necessity too. Unless there is a useful chemical deterrant, but I'd imagine you'd have to apply that just as much ad you'd have to adjust cages? And who knows what it would do to the plant. Fishing line definitely won't keep out mice or rabbits, and may just end up injuring someone or something as it's nearly invisible.

Thorny obstacles may keep some things out, but make sure it's not something that is going to be ineffective against say, deerhide. I'd also want to make sure it's not going to steal all your buds nutrients :)

Let us know what you decide on and how it works out if you go a non-chickenwire method.

Fishing line may work if you weave it close enough together but for deer and rabbits, nothing will work better than chicken wire. I use a 1" nap roller and roll my chicken wire with green outdoor paint. If I don't do this I will typically lose every plant to deer. As for planting in thorny bushes, if you can get to the plants, the deer can get to the plants. Not to mention that is prime rabbit habitat as well. Try painting the chicken wire. You'll be suprised how it disappears into the background foilage. Good luck bro.
