can fan max and filter flange?

Y

I tried attaching my 12" can fan max to the filter flange, and after inserting 2 screws, I fired it up and the fan is tweaked, the blades on the inside are rubbing. I really dont think I did anything when I put the screws in.

Has anyone attached a Canfan max to a filter flange?

BTW, I installed mine pulling through the filter so the airflow would have been going away from the filter. I screwed in the bottom 1/2" or so, nothing that would have interfered with the blades.

I am thinking of returning it, but its a hassle and dont want to go through that just to be told, I messed it up by putting screws in it.

I use the can max fan 10" and a can filter 150. After placing the flange on and using the clamp to secure the fan to it, I noticed it pushes air through the filter. There are no provisions on the fan to turn it around and have it pull through it. Not a big deal as both will filter, but like you, I wanted it one way and got another. I am only using it for recirc and so far so good. It actually has the benefit of standing in a corner and sucking all of the hot air from the ceiling down. GIve and take man, give and take.

why did you screw the fan onto the flange? the aluminum hvac tape wasn't enough of a seal?

because we plan on hanging the fan and filter. I dont want tape holding my fan when its 10 feet in the air. I have attached my other fans to the flange using screws.

Philthy, there should be an arrow on the fan that indicates air flow direction. You could always flip the fan around, but you are correct, it will work just fine the way you have it. Can Fan suggests you install a prefilter before the fan when using it like that

I understand you dont want tape being the only thing holding the fan but dont they come with mounting brackets? I have the 10" max fan and it has a bracket that i mount onto a 2x4 then connect to the filter which is hung by chains.

CanFan (I think, it might be someone else) makes noise reduction clamps (looks like a really big, wide hose clamp with neoprene on the inside), and one of the stores near me has an 8" Maxx attached to the flange with one of those, and a muffler attached to the other end with one as well. I don't know how secure that would be if you are hanging it, though, the display fan is just recirculating, sitting on top of a Can 100, with the muffler on top of it.
