can anyone tell me about selfing?

I recently heard that there is a technique called selfing in wich you polinate to unlock ancestery traits of a plant. Is there any truth to the latter and if so, what are the pros and cons of such techniques. any and all info will be much appreciated. LIFE SNOT ANYTHING

Selfing is a technique of applying chemicals to a female plant which turn it into a male for breeding back to the original female. The great debate is whether this creates a greater tendency for hermies.

Thanks for the answer. I've been wondering what selfing was myself. Didn't realized that's what it was all about. Is that really a healthy thing for the plant? Doesn't that stress it out? Duh...thus the sex change I guess... lol

CBF has a thread on this that has some good info and some Pro/Con debate. I'm not good at linking (or typing) but a quick search might yield some more info. I think it's called "What do you growas think about selfin". I think it is in this forum. Peace and good growing, Herb

I've heard the social backlash and family condemnation is almost as stressful as the physical stress for the plant who has had her sex changed... :biglaugh:

selfing will not gaurantee the offspring will be exactly like the mother .

Selfing is not equal to cloning. However, selfing will be much more likely to propagate offspring much closer to the single parent than normal within-generation breeding (female to brother, for instance).

awesome, I think from what i've learned, i'm going to stick to cloning. FOR NOW BUT NOT FOREVER. as long as this method is done with two true fem. the end result will be a whole bunh of feminezed seeds right? so i could keep a strain around in seed form if you don't have a male to breed with.

Thank you all verry much for the info on what selfing is. Can anyone delve into any detailed instructions of some sort on the process itself? I have built a few aero veg tubs since i posted the question origisaly and am thinking of producing some seeds for an outdoor grow. What is the best method for selfing a plant aeroponicly?Any and all info or comments strongly appriciated. PEACE.

It seems to me that the most innocuous route would the the STS spray, since it uses small amounts of photography development chemicals you can purchase with cash at a camera store, and it seems to have decent word of mouth feedback... Obviously, spraying chemicals based on metals means you can't smoke the weed after you've de-seeded it.

Anyhoo...

Thanks so much Freakazoid44,
I think this should get me started. Maybe even finished. Well, either way, I think i am going to try it with my D P Blueberry. Does anyone know or have any idea about the process that Dutch Passion is using to Fem. thier seeds? I have a feeling thier procedures would work best with thier strain. Anyways, PEACE !!!!!!!!!!
