The same amount of nutrients/salts is present in the containers, the only changing variable being water amounts.
This effects nutrient absorption. If your pot is saturated (100% water), it will not take in any nutrients whatsoever. A root hair needs to physically be TOUCHING an oxygen molecule as well as the nutrient molecule to absorb/utilize it. If your roots are suspended in air, and every 15 minutes you spray them with a nutrient solution, it has to be fairly mild, as the plant will uptake the majority of these nutrients.
Your cup of nutrients will be absorbed depending on how often you water, volume of water each time, soil structure (clay vs. sand vs. coco),genetics, environment, which stage of growth/flower its in, container used, et all.
It's a learning process. It takes time/experience/reading to be able to figure out how to efficiently feed your particular strain,likewise if you're trying to figure out how to most efficiently feed plants in general. The larger your grow op is, the more important these little (efficiency based) nuances are. Efficiency is good. Keeping your plants healthy and vigorous is great.
