Can 38 Special Carbon Filters

Has anyone tried these Can 38 Special Carbon Filters? I searched and didn't come up with much. They're a bit cheaper than other Can Filters...

Sorry mate - the last thing I skimp on is the scrubber. Wasted too much $$ in the past on 'deals' that ended up with an apartment smelling like I dumped fuel all over the floor. Never again.

Well I figured since Can's a major brand it might be ok. But yeah, the last thing I'd want to stop working is the carbon filter in a couple months when the flowers are stinkin', like I've heard can happen with the odor-sok's. So anyone used the 38 specials?

What about them Can 2600's? 94cfm and only $80. That seems like a decent deal, anyone used one of them before?

Got one and it works well

:chin: But if I was starting from scratch, I would Prolly go with an odorsok. The latest in odor control tech. seems to be fairly economical with many advantages. :sasmokin:

cyburnt, you have a 38 special and it works? good to know...mind if i ask which model you have and how much ganj it's handling? i've read some stuff that suggests the odor-sok's wear out quickly if they work at all.

But...if you look at the cost of a Sok it is more than half as much $ as compared to something like a Can filter and a Sok only lasts 6 months. They used to advertise up to 12 months but now say 6 month life so you have to use 2 to get the same length os use as 1 Can filter and you actually end up paying more. Seems great for people needing a low weight filter and the disposal issue with a Sok is minimal as compared to a Can type filter. When my Can filter runs out I'm gonna invest in a refillable Air Reactor.

38 specials have slightly less carbon than the same sized regular can filters. Its slightly cheaper and slightly less effective. It is less effective because it has less carbon covering the same surface area....so it is packed less densely. The density carbon is packed into the filter plays a big role in the overall effectiveness of the filter. The denser the more effective.

Carbon absorbs shit...it grabs a hold of dust, pollen, dander, odor, whatever you have that comes in contact with it. Anyone that has ever soaked up an oil spill on your driveway or had to maintain the old ladies kitty litter box knows that absorbant materials can only absorb so much gunk before they become fully saturated. When that happens they are no longer effective. SO...you can't really have a filter that is too big or too small for any application (within reason of course)....the smaller filters will just need replacing more frequently than larger filters that have more carbon.

Remember...the key is density. Go with the original brand Can-Fan filter, not the 38 special.

Mike...if I were you I would go with either a can33 or a can66. You can get either to work with a 6" fan and you can outfit the 66 to work with an 8" fan. With your space, depending on the stankiness of your room and other factors...the 33 should last you 6-12 months...the 66 should last you 12-18 months, again there are alot of variables that can affect this, but that is a good general rule of thumb.
