came home to 125*F! 600w+6" s&p pics...

So I built my closet grow initially with black/white poly as a front partition with two 6" passive intakes and ducting running from them under the closet door closed. On top of this I was exhausting the 6" S&P inline fan through another 6" cutout in the top of the poly. Well I let the light run for a day, and came home to a complete mess when I opened the closet door. The poly had fallen, and everything was still running, with my temperature reading 125*F!

So, I quickly scrapped the poly and ran the exhaust for the room through the ceiling of the closet. With the light on and the fans running my temps are still 87-90*F... and this is with the closet door wide open(which is not conceivable for this grow, the door MUST stay closed). I don't even dare to shut the closet door and check the temps...

I don't know the rating of the fan off the top of my head but I'm sure it should be efficient enough for this small closet grow(35"x28"x8') and this 600wMH. My question is should I spend $400 on a portable AC, or do I have other options...? Another thing is, is it enough space at the bottom of the door with it closed to get my intake from? Here's the pics of the current setup... The fan is wrapped in a sleeping bag for noise reasons at the moment, and that seems to work pretty well.

thats a different looking bulb

you dont have an intake fan?

keeping the door closed, you are forced to draw through the cracks

no matter the size of your exhaust fan, you need either a bigger passive intake or an inlet fan

reread the post

you need a supply of fresh cool air

seems like the air outside the room is probably heated so you are drawing hot air

kinda hard to keep temps down

you need to cool the outside area or get an intake from a fresh cool source

that wired foil duct creates a lot of drag on the airflow, but if your not running a carbon filter on it, it should handle it just fine.

How long are those ducts you are using?
What are your ambient temps? (reg. room temp)

As far as a portable a/c goes, I wouldn't waste my money, get a window unit or a split-mini.

Venting into the attic creates a negative pressure in your house, not good. If you can, I'd rec to run it to the intake of your home a/c and put an adjustable ozone generator behind the filter. If you can smell ozone (smells like bleach) its too much, turn it down, prolonged exposure can be a health hazard. If you smell cannabis, turn it up.

Happy growing

The longer of the two duct lengths measures about 45" from light to fan and the shorter is about half that size, although I'll admit it has a lot of extra but its folded together and doesn't expand with the fan on. The temp in the room is usually kept around 70*. And eventually I WILL be running a filter. which is why I'd like to have a temp that compensates for that now rather than have the problem later.

I would definitely consider buying a window unit if I could afford to keep it at the window in my room and duct it to the grow, but that's far too obvious... Can I just plop a whole window unit in the actual top portion of the grow room, and have it be affective using the exhaust that's already done? And I only just recently heard of a "split-mini". Would you happen to have a link to one of these...?

I'll look into rerouting the exhaust as well, but I can't even regulate my temps as it is.:wallbash: What is the problem with this negative pressure in the house you speak of, as I've never heard of this being a dilemma?

Thanks a TON for the input and help. It really is greatly appreciated with this seemingly longer, and more stressful process every day. I've been reading these forums for what seems forever, and thought I'd finally purchase everything I needed and it would fire right up according to plan... Boy, was I wrong!

EDIT: got the temps down to low 80s WITH the door of the closet open. With it closed the temps quickly escalate. I have to figure out somethin as far as intake ASAP... Would it be ok to intake from the attic as well? It's very cool up there and even without a fan forcing air down some very cool air passively ran through the ducting before hooking it up to the fan. So maybe just make another 6" hole in the ceiling of closet and get another small fan pulling down some of that cool air?
