we need to remember what getting high felt like!
this OG/chem craze and the highest thc% are leading to a dumbing down of the smoker-there is no insight/dimensional shift in heavy buzzes-it is like being drunk-no thanks
i am craving euphoric, bright, happy go lucky strains of yesteryear-shit-even the old indicas had more character than the so called elites of today and i believe this is no accident
couch lock? no thanks

:yeahthats

I still agree with Burt that there are much more interesting/fun highs.

The problem is that once you get rolling on the OG train, a lot of things really don't cut it anymore. I don't find that I develop much of a tolerance buildup to OGs themselves, but smoking them for a couple weeks definitely raises my general tolerance to other strains...

I moved to Cali about 3 years ago. I grew in the east from seeds that I bought on the bay, the boo and the direct(you old skoolers know what I'm talkin about). I had the best weed in town and the only stuff around on par were other members here that I met and became great friends with.

I thought the dutch strains were the shit. I had been to Cali before(Bay area 2005) and was impressed with buds grown by ICmag members but the stuff I got on the street was a little better than the beasters from back home. I wasn't that impressed.

Fast forward to 3 years ago. My life in the east was getting stale and I had been wanting to move to San Diego since I first visited there in 2002. I met a girl there and thought this was the sign I needed and it felt right in my heart so I packed up my shit and moved to Cali.

At first I thought OG Kush was all hype and that it was some diesel from holland that someone grew out from seed and renamed it to something else. Well this is what I had in my head. After getting my recommendation for depression and chronic pain, I finally got to taste some REAL OG Kush from California. Well guys I ate every word I ever said about OG Kush. After finally getting a cut of Rascal/Fire OG Kush and growing it out several times, it became my favorite smoke and my favorite plant to grow. It's just beautiful all around.

I think maybe for people who have lived in Cali their whole lives, its getting played out. For me(well for right now) and the rest of the world, it's the next big thing. We are blessed here in Cali and I thank God everyday that He provides enough for me to squeak by every month to be able to live here and have the freedom to grow and smoke my meds legally. I also thank Him for the plentiful amount of elite strains going around here in Cali and San Diego especially. Like I said, we are blessed here in Cali. If one thinks the strain game here is played out, move to a place like Virginia for 6 months and see if you don't come running back to Cali for a nug of OG. ;)

that would be an awesome thing.. Hawaiian is like puffing the ocean... :dance013:

Yea I'm pretty mad I let my Maui Wowi Tooty Fruity strain that shit was incrdible! Cured with a tangy mango scent and had soooooo much resin for the skills I had at that time so I could only imagine what I'd do with it now!

Glad to see this thread still getting interest and ppl thinking about new strains... So far my seed search hasn't turned out anything keeper quality yet but Im just germing 3 more packs of jj nigerian f1, and sags mat tundra and yumboldt as we speak.

As far as prices go, thankfully I finished up early before the flood hit and got 32 on my outdoor OG... I feel pretty good on that since that seems to be the going rate on indoor so I thought that spoke for the quality. Im gonna keep rocking OGs for now but always searching for the next best thing! Love to see some hawaiian sats, I bet they'd grow great at my more coastal location.

Peeps used to love the 'ol Matanuska Thunderfuck , what a great buzz & uplifitng high sneaky & fun with that creeper~high...that caught u 10mins later totally shnizzed !. Sitting around trimming that with friends & smoking MTF & listening to music , everyone was in "happy" mode & intelligently laughing their asses off . This was "party" weed , fiesta time...loads of fun to smoke & made great copious amounts of bubble.

So what happened to them all , those strains of yesteryear?

<<And in came the $200 sneakers , House Rap , gold chains & the waves of hard Meth & hard Oxycodon. Indolent lazy kids feeling nothing but claiming all entitlements for themselves ... that grew up in the roaring '90's with all the newest tech gadgets , cell phones with cameras, DVD's , & don't forget the Big Ass flatscreens to play video games on all day . Got to have da purps man ! gotta have the Dank! It comes & goes ...but you gotta have the "cool" name brand ! >>

Ya could say there sure was a dumbing-down of the younger set , seeking to escape at every turn so why not seek out the hardest , heaviest couch-lock meds around ? After all , when all you do after waking back up on the couch with that remote in hand ..is get back to playing that video game . And down another RedBull!

An antidote for living pretty shallow modern spoiled lives ,
vicariously ? And stoopid is smart ?

I think partly ...just make sure i got my Air Jordans
& i~b cool cause they b stoopid man !!

(quote from lil Bow Wow upon opening his newest hi end sneaker store )

;)

PS: lot of great kids out there, especially love the X Gamers ,
tho some great majority are just plain stoopid ...& 80% overweight in
USA . And how do u like all the Stoopid movies these days or music?

sheesh ...can u say "shallow" ? dumb? Superficial? Numb? Idiotic?
well , not all...

you ever smoked weed on the islands not to potent my indoor dominates it i dont want new hybrids i want the oldshool haight street fruity nugs and pine tasting herb.. but i think the real problem with cali is most dispensarys have weak assed clones rarely are there clones good phenos and thats if its even the correct strain they say it is and people with the good genetics dont want to share just to have the strains renamed and mass produced

(just my two cents worth on this, and I never chime in anywhere-anymore really)
I've been growing in nor-Cali for over 10 yrs non-stop(3.5-4 crops a yr depending on strains)...and I've seen a lot of "trends" in cannabis.. with the people who grow it/sell it and buy it..my point being, strains do come and go..remember back when it was all about the "skunk weed"?? light green fluffy buds, so stinky you couldn't go anywhere with it on you... and then fast forward a lil bit,, a few yrs ago it was all about the "Blueberry",, and then all the blueberry crosses came about as folks tried to "better things"...and "we" did come out with more than a few great ones!!...then it was the "Kush" strains and the "purps"... Kush and it's crosses(most are terrible low yielders), is all the rage in southern cali....purps is all over northern cali!! everyone's got some and it's everywhere,... purpleblahblahblah...personally, I`m tired of all that!!!!..
right now I`m sitting on seeds from almost 25 different strains/crosses and pondering on whats next for me and my little circle of folks....I`d really like to see what strains, old or new, pure or all crossed up,,people would like to see ......G.

that hippy hill funk!! yeah there was a good time when kids actually liked green weed that wasnt kush lol. back when there was good green strains like romulan, ingrid, SIR, silver sage, white rhino, the sugar....random frosty fruity/piney green indoor buds! then i remember when purple first came out...we paid like twenty bucks for a tiny sack enogh to roll one blunt...then we all smoked that blunt and were like WHOAAAA so fruittyyy...haha to be a youngster again. then for a few years everyone and their moms wanted purple...all my growers were running it, all my pack flippers had them for 36...it was the only thing that would fetch over 1k a QP in the bay now they barely go for 8 a qp....ahhh to take it back to five years ago!!

Big-G,

Start up those Grape Lemonade and Godizilla #5s. The lemon swiss mother used in the grape lemonade is just killer. Most phenos from that cross are awesome and there will be some that are absolutely amazing. When you light up a grape lemonade joint, heads turn immediately from the smell. I love the skunky lemony ones the best. Great high from that cross as well.

Maybe with all of the dank herb in California, prices will actually drop to something reasonable like in Canada. It shouldn't be more than $10 a gram or $200 an ounce, no matter how good it is.

BIG G!!!! Holy shit, it's been a minute since I heard that name. Glad to see you're still doing your thing, man. Wish I could PM you, but you only have ELEVEN POSTS since 2006!!! We need to have another smokeout at the coffee house...

I'm encouraged at some of the things I've read in this thread, it seems like a lot of us are on the same page concerning the sorry homogeneous state of cannabis genetics in the most legally permissive environment on Earth. I have a million things to say on this subject, but very little computer time available to me, so I'll just throw up these shots of Big G's Romulan x Cotton Candy cut for fun.

I lost her over a year ago, but she was one of my headstash strains for a while. Very stimulating, with an excellent 'swirling' energy to the high, and a huge fresh/fruity flavor. Personally, I couldn't find much Romulan influence to the end product, it was nearly pure Cotton Candy Sativa in expression. Rad plant. Definitely not a mersh selection for today's market. My patients loved it, though.
