Uh....your math isn't right there....

$50 eighths=$6400 per lb. in sales. Most Bay area dispensaries charge $55-60 an eight, PLUS tax. $7040-$7680 per lb. sales more realistically, and taxes aren't included, so you can't take that out as an expense. Say they only charg $50 though, and say they move about 4 lbs per month, which isn't much, but you can figure that to about 2 1/4 oz. per day, or 18 eighths. This is pretty low volume for most spots. That means they are getting a net profit of $3400 per week or $13600 per month, considering they are buying at $3000 per lb. Say you have 2 employees and rent and electricity. Say you pay $4000 per month rent (utilities included) for the retail location. If you are running a location of such low volume, you don't need more than 1 employee at $2000 per month.

Thats still a profit $7,600 per month, or $91,200. They should be living just fine moving only 4 lbs per month....

Now the grower's math...thats a whole 'nother story...

Dont complain to growers about the price of weed, the dispensaries are straight up ripping you off. No sorry bro, our math is way simpler than a commercial business with major legal obstacles & far more overhead expense wise. I think 50/50 is pretty fair for a sustainable market and sales outlet to dump your extra herb on. Plenty of people get more than 3 stacks anyways so that math is a bit flawed as far as a disp's profit goes. Think how much cash they float out to keep herb in stock, some of which sells very slow and they have to mark down to get rid of at close to breaking even cost wise.

the problem is the dispensaries becoming too powerful in controlling market prices. They charge too much to the consumer but pay the producer too little. So in the black market this gives the distrubtors more bargaining power with the producer. While the bad economy allows mids too flourish but at the same prices of high end black market as of a few years back at the consumer level at least.

yea if you are in cali and not getting 3k for your indoor meds its not good enogh plain and simple. i see stuff still flying for high 3s all the time through certain clubs and certain growers. once floood season hits we will see a price drop, but right now during the summers they can ask higher. there is alot of cheap stuff but the really good designer strains like cherry pie, super sour, OG kush is still at mid 3s allllll day unless you are really good friends with the grower.

If you are in Humboldt, Trinity, or Mendo the Indoor will drop to just under 3k because the quantity of OD sitting for 1.6-2k everywhere. It's just the way things go. Once you get down to Sonoma I hear the OD gets to 2.4-2.6k. Down there the indoor does have a drop but it only hits 3-3.2k at the lowest.

Man.. that's because all anyone is growing is the same fuggin' clones .. how do you expect to get top dollar when the guy down the street has the same product and sells to the same broker and is undercutting you to feed his kids. Why do you think no one wants to pay good money for anything? because its all crap weed .. the same shitty clones and often cut early or pumped with ferts to the point it won't burn.

People need to scale down and focus on quality and get some new genetics, there is a huge market for boutique strains grown with care. I will pay whatever the cost for something that is truly unique and of quality, so will just about everyone I know.

I haven't worked a full time job in at least 4 years and I am doing just fine over here on the island. Time to diversify, those who don't will perish I can tell you that...

PS marc emery getting extradited doesn't mean shit, all those millions of seeds he sold probably contributed to the lower price in the grand scheme of things..

Interesting discussion. I live in a state near colorado and its been funny to watch the kids flogging cali outdoor switch to calling it co medical. Sometimes going so far as to make fake dispensary labels.

Plenty of variety to the outdoors though. Indoors too. We don't get the purps or og that much and authentic cuts exist in town, but few people run them. I guess it all stays in cali. I don't think many people around here care though. Diesel is the main draw.

There are a bunch of great cuts traded among the right crowd as well as a bunch of high yielding poorly grown garbage. Point is a large group of people see a wide variety of great strains. I've been out west and seen whats in the dispensaries and for the most part it isn't much better than what we see here. Main difference is price and availability.

No one I know gets all hung up on a couple strains..variety is good and new stuff is constantly getting cycled in. Something good will be passed around and ran hard for a year or so and on to the next thing.

I can't imagine living out west and just smoking kush or purps all the time, sounds boring..although I don't smoke so it wouldn't make much difference where I live

You know what trips to dispensaries are like in SoCal? It's like visiting any mall--same brands, same merchandise. Very ho-hum for the most part. But hey, people want to smoke nothing but kush, so that's what dispensaries put a priority on. Not a lot of interesting connoisseur buds. Always the same stuff, more or less. OG this OG that.
