Cali-O seeds, what would you do??

Greetings all,

So I have a small project I am getting started on. My purpose is to grow out/increase some seed stock from the small amount of Cali-O seeds I have. I would like to have a fair amount to keep which will be relatively stable in expressions consistent with the Cali-O.

I only recently had the opportunity to try out one plant of the Norstar Cali-O Bx and really enjoyed the skunky orange-rind flavor. It seemed to be a good balanced experience as well, very enjoyable herb.

So here is what I have and plan doing, but would love feedback and experiences with either as well. I have 12 regular seeds of the Norstar COBX and 7 fem CSI Cali-O seeds. My first run is going to be 5 of the reg seeds and 3 of the fems with the intention of doing an "open pollination" of the bunch. I am hoping for at least a few males from the reg seeds to do this and know this is a really small population but it's what I have.

This will make my first round of seeds, then I was planning to do a second run with 7 regs and the remaining 4 fems. Same thing, getting a second, first generation of this cross.

OR, I was also thinking of growing some plants from the first increase and possibly an additional backcross to the original S1 CSI seeds. Would that be a better route?? Seems it would give more of a chance for the AE77 essence to be infused further in the mix?

I have very limited space so this is the only option I have. Thoughts?

Here is a nug of the Norstar COBX. Strong odor of orange rind & skunk, the missus said it semlled like "sweet poo". She doesn't smoke but has a great sense of smell. Funny, but kind of true. it's delicious.

Just a quick update on the seed project. Here is the first CSI Cali-O S1 that I have going, she is at 4 weeks flower. I have two others in veg and have cuttings of each plant which will be hit by the Norstar Cali-O BX male (if I get one or two). I've had some difficulties with the Norstar seeds both times I've germinated them. I tried to pop 7 on this run and only two have come trhough, I had this same problem last year with the same seeds, very low germination rate compared to everything else I've run.

If they do not come through I am thinking of trying Crokett's Tangie and using a male from that line to hit the CSI ladies.

Can't seem to get a correct orientation on the photos. I've tried saving them in different orientations and then uploading but they are always coming out laying to the left??

You have to just slightly crop the photos to get them to load upright.

Hey folks, just an update on my little CO project. I had some germination problems with the Norstar beans, out of 7 I only got 3 above ground. It was the same with them last time, been doing this for awhile and haven't had this much trouble with any other beans but who knows?? Anyway, I ended up getting 2 males out of the three one of which has a nice pungent orange rind/skunk aroma similar to the female I got out of the bx run. The other didn't have much smell and the structure wasnt as solid as the male I will be using.

I have 3 of the CSI COs1 plants going now. I flowered the first out and it's a really nice, more of an orange blossom aroma and a "soft" orange flavor which is nice. I have the 2nd & 3rd S1's in their 2nd week of flower and am looking forward to the expressions on those. I have cuttings of all three and the male that I will be using to make some beans.

I will get some pics of the CSI flower up soon.

Outcold, thank you for the message, wish I could respond. Definitely interested.

Here is the male that will be used. The goal is to have a nice stock of orange beans that I can pop every now and then. This is my first time tasting Cali-O and it's a nice flower which I will keep in the vault for as long as possible.

So the first step of my small seed increase run is complete. I was able to pollinate 3 of the AE77 S1s with one of two males from the cali-O Bx. The male I used had a very pronounced orange rind aroma compared to the second. I ended up with roughly 100+ seeds and still have 4 S1s and 5 of the regular COB BX for the future.
