Ca is a large molecule and I don't think is readily absorbed by leaves but Mg is large also and is somewhat absorbed but a chelated version might be much more absorbable or like epsom which is calcium sulfate and i think the sulfate helps it to be absorbed more.

Cal mag is basically a waters hardness and when you have hard water think about the 'scale" in your shower, etc. this "scale" forms like a hard precipitate so imagine a plant leaf trying to absorb this precipitate.
Some molecules ionize better in solution and those molecules are the ones that are best absorbed by the leaves.
The ones that are
1. small
2. chelated
3. more easily dissolved in solution.
