Cal-Mag? What?

Hello,

sorry for making ANOTHER thread, but i really can't find what i am looking for using the search function. :1help:

What is this whole Cal-mag deal i hear people talking about all the time?
they say they add some "Cal-mag" to their water. yeah, i know they are talking about Calcium and Magnesium, but what product?

I know there are tablets out there made for HUMAN consumption that are called "Cal-Mag 3:1". if so, how do i use that stuff? How much do i mix?

Can someone clue me in on this please? I am using R/O water, and i think i might need to add calcium and magnesium later on.

I searched the board up/down, and all i found were people talking about using it. They never specified what product they used and how much they mixed though.

Sorry for being such a beginner

Botanicare Cal Mag Plus

Search or google that and you'll find plenty of info from hydro stores.

Cal/Mag is an additive a lot of growers use to provide sufficient calcium and magnesium to the plants. Some tap water has plenty of it already in there, but some people use water filters (like your RO water) without it in there and they need to add it. Botanicare has the most popular brand I believe, but there are several other brands also. And there are other ways to add calcium and magnesium with epsom salts and stuff not in my knowledge base yet. Maybe others here can add something.

As for the pills, I have no idea but I'd guess it wouldn't work.

you can also use "epsom salts" (not sure if thats just magnesium)

a lot depends on where you are as to whats available and what its called - in NL the product is called bitterzouts, for example.

i can buy a 10lbs bag of "epsom salt" from the pharmacy, they sell it as an additive for bathwatter.

It looks like coarse rocksalt. How much would i use? Or is that the wrong kind?

I am not sure that epsom salts are the best way to go. Pay the $20 and get the suggested calmag product.
