cabinet- carbon filter on roof or floor?

hi guys, im trying to build a NGB style cabinet, and i have realised that i wontb eable to fit a veg chamber in too (not to worry, going to build a lil box for that later). i have a carbon filter and fan that are fairly large, and the cab itself is about 100cm wide, 90+cm tall, and about 40cm deep.

my question is, should i put hte carbon filter and fan on the roof of the dresser, (to one side), and then have my cool tube below/ slightly beside that? i think this will reduce the available height, as the cool tube wont fit next to the carbon filter,
or, should i put the carbon filter on the floor, inm the corner, and then have more room for my cool tube?

i guess in short my question is, is floor space or height space more important here, other factors considered (you tell me whether the carb filt and fan wil be more efficient in one way or other, adn whether this will make up for losing head room or floor space.

btw, i have a 250hhps that i intend to scrog with.

plus,i just broke my cool tube (landlord gave me 30 mins warning of a visit, right in the middle of installing everything, in the rush something fell and the glass broke :( )so will prob have to buy another, i just cant find the 'bake arounds' that are talked about in the cool tube tutorials anywhere.

thanks guys

oh one last thought, i was thinking of building a flower bed to fit in the dresser exactly and make maximum use of space. does the bed need to be able to drain? or does drainage holes just make for easier watering? i was just going to use wood, with maybe plastic sheeting inside to protect the wood

If you can get your scrubber up high that would be most efficient...I assume because you are doing a cab grow that your scrubber will be attached to your exhaust.

SCROG or LST are great when height is a concern

EVERYTHING that you grow should have proper drainage, unless using DWC, Aero, SWC, etc.

thanks albert, i thought as much. if i put the filter on the roof, i am concerned that the spread of light might not be so good, as the cool tube would have to be mounted either paralell to the carbon filter (and thus not in the middle of the canopy, but to the side) or underneath it, furth reducing height space.

i guess the answer comes down to whether a larger amount of floor space or a larger amount of head room would make most efficient use of the light. its a fairly small box so hopefully the carb filter wont make much difference to efficiency.

im thinknig of making a dwc, and doing a sog. im a bit worried about the noise of the water/air pump, are there any quiet ones that people recommend? esp in the uk?

You don't have to lose head room or floor space...... put the fan and filter outside the box. The NGB style cabs are usually quite small and a 4" fan with commercial carbon filter can pull air through your cab and push into a carbon filter without a problem.

You can check out my NGB inspired design in the links below... there are some drawings that show where Vortex 4" and carbon filter fit outside the cab. I'm running 400W in 2'Wx3'Dx44"H.... temps are not problem, I even have a fan speed controller 'cause in winter the Vortex pulls too much air and temps actually can get low.

The fan can pull through the cab from outside (both a CFL veg box and 400W flower box) and push into the carbon filter and it works just fine.... no odor whatsoever.

Others will read this and disagree.....some say that filters should be placed inside cabs with the fan pulling through the filter and then exhausting outside. Decide for yourself.... Why lose square footage inside the box if you don't have to?

interesting idea merman, i have a separate floewr box with a 200w cfl. i wonder where i could put the carbon filter and fan, outside the box, that is concealed (hence the idea of a stealth ngb dresser). would i runa splitter for the ducting, or just run ru ducting from the veg box, to the cool tube, to the fan and filter outseide the box?

having seen your set up, i wonder if my 250w hps is enough for the box i have. is it worht me gonig up to a second 250w, or even a 400w (i could put my 250 in the veg chamber)? or a 400w hps AND a 250w hps (bnoth air cooled) in the same flower box?or is this overkill ? i know its about 50w's per square foot or something, but given the length of the cab, i wonder if the 250w will lack light penetration at each end.

im really intrigued by the idea, as it would give me so much more room to play with. just dunno where i could put the fan and filter- though my veg chamber is by my flower, so i could put the filter in the veg box, and maybe have a sepearte exhaust for the light and heat in the veg chamber (which i think if i put my flower box exhaust in, would get hot, if you follow me ?)

im not too worried about the fan noise, as its a great fan and i also have a speed controlller. though i think if i were trying to cool a 400w (esp a 400+a 250) it might be different and the fan might have to work harder/louder)

i should add, i have a lil sapare carbon filter, perhaps i could put a carb filter at each end of the run?

i still cant figure out how to mount the carb filter outside the cab, without putting it in the veg box. and then, i am just exhausting all the ehat from the flower box to the veg, so im worried about tempts..

any idfea guys? pretty please
