Had a pulse raiser this AM. Getting ready to go off to do what I do and I hear this high pitched whinning/screeching sound. Go to investingate and find CAP TMP-DNE belowing like a screaming cougar. Lights flashing on and off, all of them, and clicking wildly. I unscrew and unplug it and all is quiet. Except for my heart beating through my chest.
I go and check my breakers, all OK. Other equipment running on same circuit is fine. Come to the conclusion, obviously, that CAP TMP-DNE has had a malfunction.... Had this happened litearally 10 minutes later I would not have been there to catch it.
Would it of caught fire? Possibly. Would the breaker kick out before that?
Dam scary situation. I will go ahead a build my own thermostatically controlled outlet. I feel more confident that way I will know everything is done right. Would never buy another item from them again.
Talked to the people that distribute them and the tech guy said the mother board locked up. I should note unit is barely 1.5 months old.
Just wanted to let you all know this happened.

That is a scary situation Neg! Ive had a ballast piss out on me and luckily I was in the room cause smoke was coming out the ballast.
1 time my neighbor calls me and says that something in my room is making alot of noise. I was 38 minutes away at work and Ive never had my heart beating so fast. I thought for sure Ide come home to firetrucks and police in my house.
I get there and open the door as Im fumbling with the keys frantically shaking and looking for the padlock key, open the door and it was my fan that fell over and it was clicking from the oscilating part. LOL I almost crashed twice driving home I was so freaked out.
Thanx for the info.

If you had GFCI outlets wouldn't they kill the power to the unit when the positive/negative load is out of balance?

All I use is Sentinal. Never had anything fail on me in over 6 years.
PXM-1 power expanders
EVC-2 Enviro Computer
CPPM-1 Co2 Controller w/ integrated photocell

All I need now is the MDT-1 Master Digital Timer for the "hot start" feature

No matter the brand, anything can fail.... Really glad to hear this situation turned out like it did. Highly advise arc-fault breakers, if you can afford them!

I have went exclusively with Sentinel from then on and have had zero issues.
I have the HID-2 for light control and a EVC-2. They work perfectly.

This is true, but CAP specifically ignores the electrical code, NEMA standards, and well-established "best practices". No UL or CSA approvals. Scary crap, in my opinion.
