Butter Questions.....

......I'm making some cannabutter today, and I had a cpl ??'s. i usually use 1-2oz.s for each lb. of butter (frosty trim)cooked on LOW in a crockpot for 12-18hrs. I also use 2 cups of water. Everyone loves my treats but I wanted to know if I'm overdoing it with the cook time or if I'm just right.

Naw, you're good on the cook time. I like to use 'overnight' as a guideline, lol. So it depends on what a slugabed you are if you are over or under cooking your green muck.

One thing to remember though is that stirring or whisking it up frequently helps the extraction go better, so give yourself a few hours at least where you can be there occasionally opening up the crock pot and mooshing it around.

Your butter to trim ratio is pretty high too. If you use that much butter, try doing multiple washes- so make your butter, then put it in the freezer until you have another batch of trim to use up, and re-run it with the OLD butter and the NEW trim.

For comparison, I use 2 sticks of butter to a freezer bag of frosty prime trim including popcorn buds, or 2-3 freezer bags of lesser quality trim, running the butter a couple times to concentrate the psychoactives, since all that trim doesn't fit comfortably in the crock pot.

Get a potato ricer to squeeze out excess. Trust me on this one. It is an invaluable tool in the cannabis kitchen. It's like a giant garlic press, and you don't lose any precious butter that way.

Should I do 2-3zips for each lb of butter? I have plenty of xtra trim so thats not an issue. It's all frosty trim,no fan leaves. Is grinding it up in a coffee grinder/food processor a good option?
How was Nugs n Jugs BTW?? Hope u had fun!

How much you use is totally up to you. For caramels of average potency; that is, a 10g dose will bring you to a moderate medicinal/low recreational level appropriate to treating anxiety, I make up the butter with the equivalent of 2g shake per tablespoon butter. That would be 32g equivalent per pound. Your job is to try and asses the potency of your frosty trim compared to shake. Is it half as potent? Use twice as much (dry weight).

I don't think that the coffee grinder is a good idea. Dried trim should be crumbly anyway and you can crush it up in the crock pot with a potato masher before adding the liquids. If you use wet trim, assume 80% weight is water so if you want to include the equivalent of an ounce dry, use 5 ounces wet. Either way, the processing includes stirring and mixing and all your plant material should have a chance to come into long contact with lipids in the liquid.

The party was wonderful and I had a really nice time.
