I have some nugs that I dried for 4 days and then put into mason jars. I have had them in the jars for seven days now. Every day I open the jars, twice a day, for 30 minutes. How many days/weeks should I open the jars for? When can I stop opening the jars?
That sounds more like jarred but forgot to dry. If you are risking mold after you jar your buds you are jarring way to early IMHO. I find my best flavors come out when I don't jar the bud until it is fully dry. I used to use the burping thing to finish drying my buds but never got good flavor that way. Puting them in the jars when they are actually dry however, gets good scents after only a couple days of burping the jar. Then when it smells good after opening the jar, you just seal it and wait. When bud is well dried it will seem overly dry. That is where most people make their mistake I think. Of course the reality is that the outside IS overly dry and the inside of the buds are too moist. Jar curing starts by equalizing the moisture content throughout.it is my understanding that you are supposed to gently tumble the buds when you burp the jar. this allows air to reach to every spot of the buds that would have otherwise blocked in moisture, risking mold. ive heard of peoples entire crops going to bust because they burped, but forgot to tumble
The only way to really know if you are the right level of dryness is to jar it up and give it a day. After the moisture equalizes you will know what you have. My thing recently is instead of just doing the burp thing if I wasn't quite dry, I now pull it out of the jar and back to the drying area to finish. I find that attempting to jar and burp moist weed just seals in the hay. I would much rather be too dry and throw a fan leaf in the jar to bring moisture back up if I have too. I am a relatively new grower... little less than 2 years now. This has been one of the hardest things to get a good feel for, but one of the most critical steps to having really fine mj.You can close up the jars once the stems are dry enough to snap when you bend them. The buds should still have some moisture in them, if they are brittle they are overdry.
I've just been removing my bud from the jars completely. I empty it all out (gently of course) into the cardboard tray that the jars came in. After 1-2 hours I put everything back in the jars.it is my understanding that you are supposed to gently tumble the buds when you burp the jar. this allows air to reach to every spot of the buds that would have otherwise blocked in moisture, risking mold. ive heard of peoples entire crops going to bust because they burped, but forgot to tumble
