Burn in times?

My question for everybody is, Do you to need burn in your bulbs? I am a commercial carpenter and electrician and when working with florescent fixtures some have burn in times. This means that the ballast and bulb both require a breaking in period, and to do this you must leave the lights on for 48 hours without turning them off (for example). I was just wondering if anybody else has herd of something like this for a HPS systems.

I run my floros 24/0 in veg. They worked just as well when New. My HPS needs a minute to kick on fully as it's Old and the magnetic type but Burn In Times have never been an issue that I'm aware of.

I know lamps require the burn in to seat and reach optimal reliable performance...never heard it anything abot having to leave them on X amount hours at one shot.
Run time is run time. Soon as a lamp is warm, and not fully seated, it'll just warm again and continue the process until complete.
Kind of like, you put a meatloaf in the oven, cooked it halfway, turned off the oven, let it cool...then turned it back on to finish cooking the loaf.
I hope that makes sense!

I think you may be wrong about this one, anybody else shed some light on the situation?

You don't need to do any burn in with the newer bulbs, especially with electronic ballasts.

Yea, I think you could be right about that with the new electronic ballasts, which I do have.

I try to do it with any arc discharge/floro setup, my reasoning is it couldn't hurt anything really just leaving it on for a couple hours the first start up.

Yea that is what I do also. I always add the new bulb at the begging of the day. That way it can burn all day long and hopefully that is enough.
