Building small grow cabinets to sell.....

let me start by saying i have pretty good experience working with wood(no pun intended). ive talked to a few patients and a lot of them seem to want one of these personal size all in one cabs. i talked to one guy who is about to spend over 4k plus freight on some turn key cab with everything included.

this seems unacceptable to me. not that i am trying to capitalize on them but to an extent i help them out and i make money and have fun while doing so. win win.

ive built a few cabs from scratch. ticks sogg'n box and others. ive put together mills pride cabs etc. ive run 400's, 600's and LED's.

in your opinions do you guys think something like the smaller version of ticks sogg'n box would be better than a pre-fab c-13 or similar. if i do the c13 style i would replace the back with actual plywood to strengthen it up, do a small utility area to house the fans/electrical/etc. from there i would get patient input on how they want it set up, soil/hydro etc. and build accordingly.

aesthetically i think the c13 style blend in a little better that a plywood cabinet on casters but it all depends on where its going and whatnot.

i want to be able to set everything up proper and keep prices low but still make a small profit and keep everyone happy.

what do you guys think?

1. I think it's a great idea.
2. I think the main competition is tents.
3. I think long term, fool proof light-proofing is what makes this market difficult to conquer.

Good luck and much support from the LED corner!

thanks. u make a good point about the tents. i have many! a 10x10, 5x5, 2x4. they are great! but then again they dont exactly blend in lol. i think a small c13 cab would blend in much better but tents are so much easier to work with and cheaper by now. a lady i know just got a 6x6 for $60. you cant beat that. maybe i can set up tents for people who want them. i can buy a small one and set it up with my 2 300w LED panels and take some pics all set up with pots and fans and whatnot so they can see just how ridiculously bright they are lol. you got me thinking now!

I've considered this for years but don't have the place to work on projects like this (no garage :( )

For cheap cabinets I'd suggest scouring craigslist for old armoires and entertainment centers. A lot of the older 2 section entertainment centers that had the place for a TV and on the side shelves for cable box, dvd, stereo would work great for perpetual boxes.

Best of luck to you!

I don't think the market really exists to make this a full-time business for you but your intentions sound pure enough and I think most of the pre-fab cabinets on the market are extremely over priced. Give it a go and see what you think, but be prepared to drop 2-4K into this project without much in return.

Something I would like to see for medical patients is a perma-veg cabinet designed specifically to produce leaf for juicing. The CBN/CBD in the leaf is non-psychoactive and is potentially very beneficial for patients looking for the clinical effect rather than the high.

I think there is still a market for premium kit - all too many out there are junk. Excellent craftsmanship, and looking like it belongs has major value.

For what it's worth, if you go through with this idea, I think there actually is quite a market for this... but I think you will need to come up with a way to make them transportable. Like, make them as kits that need to be assembled, so that you can sell them over the internet and have them delivered. Otherwise, your entire client base would have to be people close enough to you to be able to pick them up themselves.

all good points you guys make. i am in no way trying to make a career out of it just a side hobby to help out some locals. i dont really intend to market out of town/state or anything, its merely just to keep me busy doing what i like to do.

the thing i didnt like about ticks soggn box was that it was designed to where it didnt fit through a regular house door lol. u should have seen me try haha. i had to dismantle and reassemble in the room. epic fail.

im gonna price up a small tent like a 2x4 or 2.5x2.5 with a flood and drain table and all the goodies and see where im at. i figure a single 400-600 will do well in that space. set em up with some Ph perfect nutes to make it brain dead simple and as long as they are changing out weekly they should do way better than most first timers.

good idea on the CL searching. i check often and have a buddy at goodwill who gives me heads up. i picked up a 1300 dollar pottery barn armoire off CL for 150 but my wife wont let me touch it lol

Did some prototypes a while back. NGB style flower/veg
combo box.

Designed to ship, ready to assemble. I'll look for the
pics I have of the work we did.

Panels over hardwood frame, lightweight and sturdy.
Wholesale priced around 80 bucks, based on initial run
of 500 units.

Legal scrubbed it for liability issues. Maybe will look into
re starting the project as a what if.

Well see.
