Building a small greenhouse? (Ideas welcome)

I was thinking about building a small greenhouse that fits about 4 clones. I'm not a heavy smoker so 4 clones outdoors would yield more then enough for me to smoke. The greenhouse I'm thinking of is basically going to ba tiny greenhouse. Something that I could even sit out on a balcony of an apartment or in a backyard. The idea is to grow some plants outdoors but keep it hidden. I might even make it alittle bigger so I can grow some peppers and tomato plants so that it blends in well. Any ideas on building a small greenhouse?

Size doesnt matter for a green house.

What is important is exposure to direct sunlight and ventilation to deal with the excess heat that produces. The best way to do that is an adjustable vent near the top of the structure.

At night, a single layer of plastic provides no thermal value, the interior temperature drops quickly with the temperature difference. A double layer with an air space will give you decent insulation and keep the temperatures up through the night. Thermal mass is a big help too. Concrete, dirt or jugs of water will warm up during the day and slowly release the heat at night.

Materials available range from a single sheet of semi opaque plastic through double glassed windows. My favorite material is woven polyethylene fabric. It's is very strong and will last for years because it is UV stabilized to withstand the damaging effects of sunlight.

Best part, it's cheap and readily available locally. They sell them as finished tarps in any auto department.

Great info Stoner!

So if the floor of your greenhouse is concrete, will it heat up even if the plants block the sun from getting to it?

What does this material you get look like? is it clear?

Closet Funk- If you want to do a greenhouse, and have a suficient backyard, make one of those 5x5 ones that everyone has. Actually, 6x6 if its 4 plants...and have a garden around or to the side of it of tomatoes and other shit. Keep your yard clean and tight. Make strait lines with your lawn mower, keeps your household look like the kind who wouldnt grow dope in their backyard. If youve got shit all over your lawn and busted cars and shit, the helicopter man will make note and they will pay you a visit.

For Thermal mass jugs of water painted black seem to be the easiest rute. While the cement may hold heat for a while it also takes a while to heat up once it has cooled off. Ventelation is key, they say you should only use 1/3 of the space in your greenhouse to allow for proper ventelation. Now since you can finish clones at any size you can make your greenhouse any size, but be sure to allow plenty of room for them to grow in the time you give them. There's a few ways to keep the plant size down, small pots (Bonsai) or even placeing them out late in the season for flowering.

Ventelation is probably the biggest concern if you want to keep the greenhouse running healthy. If you start with a pallet for a base that will give you great ventelation from the bottom and a passive vent at the top should ventelate via hot air riseing pulling in fresh air from the floor.

My dream green house is a double paned glass-house, with a heater, a bit much for a starter GH though.

The first grow I did from seed to harvest was in a decent sized GH attached to a large building(huge heat resivour). The ventilation was horrible, and in the heat plants dried up faster than I could water them.
In the fall, I had massive problem with mold(humidity), I was new to growing, and knew nothing about the special problems involved with GH growing.
I figured it out at the end of the season, and had a huge exaust fan located. But I lost access after that season, and my Guerrilla career was born!
That was my biggest harvest ever, despite mold problems, 3lbs I think, I smoked on it for 2 years, LOL!

Any ways, make sure you have plenty of ventilation when you need it, to get rid of unneeded heat and humidity. A vent like stoner133 said, is very important!

That flowerhouse is coll, but will plants grow in the one that is opaque? It says it blocks Uv so does that mean you need the clear one? i live in a somewhat urban area so that would be great if i could use the non-clear one, otherwise it's no good.

Do a google search for a book called "projects with PVC" Tells ya how to build a GH with PVC pipe. Just a suggestion quickly, find some way to stake the hell out of it or it could blow away.

Wished I had access to my old gallery @ OG. I have built a few GH's.

I have made them on the spot with palm branches bent so they will make a dome.I now use my old tent frames {dome} The firerglass poles are easy to tote thru the bush
I use a heavy duty plastic to cover and place rocks to anchor down. These tents are only 49 bucks @ wall mart.
Good luck.
