I've got little green mites in my drainage buckets. the plants have nothing on them. these things seem to jump rather than fly and move quickly. larvae are white. anyone got any ideas what they could be and the best way to gat rid?

Sounds like fungus gnat larvae if they are in your water.

MarijuanaMesiah says:

Gnatrol - You'll be golden, dont bother with anything else if you can get this stuff.

If you cant, go for the mosquito dunks sold at garden centers as ive herd those are bassicly a granulized version of gnatrol.

Nah, they can live almost any place that it's moist and there's roots to feed on. I've personally seen them in hydroton & coco mediums...

nice one!!! I've got the growers bible and from what i've read i think thats wat they are. with the mites jumping i thought they could be thrips. although not convinced. am growing in coco with a small amount of peat. i've heard neem powder can be used as a soak which should get rid of any insects. Anyone tried it?

They're Thrips,,,, be told will ya ffs!"...lol

here man, look at the pics on this thread and tell me they're not the same as what you have in your buckets >

They are definately not , no way in hell, fungus gnats. I've had the gnats before now and that isn't what you've got. Those fekkers you have are far too fast when they move. Fungus gnats dont jump like they do. There could be a slight possibility you have both, but what you showed me definately wasn't gnats.
If they were, i guarantee we would have seen at least one adult come from your buckets or in the room.
So far you're lucky they're confined to the bottom of the buckets and theres no evidence on their presence on your plants,,, but get it sorted out a.s.a.p.
Just find the cure for the Thrips and that will take care of any fungus gnat larvae too.(should there be any there)

Good luck fella ;)

Got some microbial which seems to cover just about everything. can be used with the nutes as a soak or as a spray. is natural so won't hurt the plants! Cheers for the advice!!! I'll be seeing you Stikky budz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;]

hhmmm :chin:

gnats crawl about the edges of substraits,,, whereas thrip live on the UNDERSIDES of leafblades (see sign-off).

an organic food spray will control thrip no problem,,, dilute slightly before use

fyi. mites cannot fly or jump. I had my first experience with them last year. No mites this year. I used neem every third week up until bloom. Didnt have any problems while in bloom with any types of bugs. I prefer neem because its organic, but the stuff stinks

I've heard a lot of good stuff about neem but can only get it in an oil or cream as people use it in anti-bacterial skin care stuff or insect repellent. Think the only way of getting it in the powder form would be to go to India!!! wot form of neem do you use? After a couple of days of using the microbile in a soak and spray it would seem that the little bleeders have been beaten, only time will tell!!!!!!!!!!! :)
