hi
i have little fruit fly type flies that fly around my light and soil. (fungus gnats?)
also im not sure if this is related but i saw a TINY white moving speck on a leaf, and also saw one that came from the soil and was climbing on the pot, they move fast and i cant get a pic of them. there doesn't seem to be any damage to my garden i don't think, what are these bugs!

i have the same problem but am late in flower and dont want to do anything crazy. I have tried cups of beer which seems to collect them but not sure if i am just attracting them. Anyway, i tried half an inch of clay rock on top of my pots which i am trying instead of perlite. No perlite on hand. Anyway, i still see some flying around.. The dunks are next i guess.

Hey guys try spraying the top of yr soil with neem oil and then putting covers on it, if no neem oil just cover the soil with blackout plastic, that'll stop most things.

wat soil u in? i started using bat special a year ago and hav never had black fly since.

You dont want to do anything crazy so you invite them over for a beer?Thats funny man you know I'm just kidding.I've used the NPS with just a few weeks until flower, never noticed a thing except it got rid of my problem. Some people just wont use dichlorvous though,it's their loss I say

for spider mites make yr own spray solution using chillies and peppers, or cyanne pepper.

Good luck

God WHY would you go through all that lofty when hanging a NPS for a few days will eliminate the problem?I just dont get it,I've seen people use anything from nicotine to hot chili peppers when a 5 dollar NPS will eliminate the mite problem. At least it always has and I've had mites probably 4 or 5 times in 6 years.I havent had them in 2 years now that I use a cool mist humidifier in the veg phase.

^^ Agree with the above whole heartedly. Do yourself a BIG favor, get a no pest strip and hang it in room for 3-4 days then remove it. That will take care of the gnats and mites.

hey captian :joint:
your not inviting the flys to the party, there coming DIRECTLY from your soil no BS....if you want to see for your self this is what you do....

fill a cup up with soil run water through it untill it runs out the bottom, after that take a CLEAR plastic cup spray some water into it then breath in it and then place it over the cup of soil....give it a day or two and watch the clear cup on top you will see nat/flys begin to get stuck to it and die!!!...

as far as mites :yoinks: ARRRRRRR good luck with that, hot shots work if you catch them BEFORE they fully infestate your crop...
peace bro :joint:

You can either go with hot shot or spectracide no pest strip, its the same animal.Just make sure the active ingredient is dichlorvous.Hang it in the middle of the room for 72 hours, and remove it.Rehang it 48 hours later for 48 hours and you're definately done, actually you're 99% done after hanging it the first 72 hours. It has always worked for me,its never ever failed me.Get a cool mist humdifier for 30 bucks and use it in the veg phase if thats where your problem normally starts, thats where mine normally did.You wont have mites any more period.EDIT I just need to say inevitably some greenie will come on the thread spouting the dangers of dichlorvous,it never fails.Dont fall for the shit man Ive used it as close to two weeks before harvest, try to avoid that if possible lol.My point is,it works.Do you want to get rid of the mites or just fuck around tryin?

captianchronic whats worked for me in the past for fungus nats is a layer of play sand on top of the soil. You can pick up a bag for next to nothing. As far as mites go i wish anyone with them GL. Only way i found to totally get rid of them was to take cuts and clean them with a tooth brush, put them in the fridge for 2 weeks kill the moms. Then dome clone the cuts. After all that moisture they never make it. Mites are my worst enemy. Peace LL

Lofty its best to cut down on the air circulation when using the nps,you shoudnt be using oscillating fans or anything like that.If ventilation is absolutely necessary its still going to work believe me,I just dont know if the hanging time should increase or not.Man I gotta get off this puter and feed das blockenheaden

i put black plastic over the soil to keep the gnats from layin eggs. Under the plastic, on top of the soil, i put slices of potato to attract the larva to it witch i was told to remove after 4 -5 day witch would remove most of the larva with it. so i hope my gnat problem is over however, do mites eat leaves? because there is NO leaf damage, the plants look pretty damn nice actually. the only reason im concerned is i don't want a future problem. so my question is are these little white things mites??

a little info is
master gardener soiless mix
canna tera vega (switching to flora and pk 13/14 very soon)

You will know if you have a spidermite infestation, they will suck the moisture out of the leaves leaving tiny white dots all over the leaves,if let go too long you'll start to see silky webbing all over the place, uhhhhh it's digustoid.I havent seen that myself in many years praise dichlorvous. You'll know spidermites the signs are obvious.
