nice. they look happy. if you repot them earlier next time you should be able to keep the faster growth going without checking it.

did the middle one have less of a root system?

Hey VD, no the #2 had the same size root system as the other 2. Sure looks different than the 1 and 3 though !I dont have intentions of culling any yet. They will most likely all see the light of flowering.

cool, look forward to seeing how different they turn out. when i grew them it seemed that they looked more and more similar as they got older... the beiggets variation was at seedling stage.
that said i did have one seedling that was more different but it didnt survive when i went away for a week.

Always so exciting to see what comes from seeds. I intend on continually updating on this thread. I will try to update weekly from seed to cure. Cant wait to get to the Fat Bubba seeds, as I would like to continue with the photo -documentation. I kind of wish I had been doing it all along ! Thanks again Verdant ! I always look forward to seeing your posts.

Bubba s1 week 5

Bubba s1 week 5

Here they ladies are at thier 5th week of growth since germination. The # 3 looks to be the best so far. # 1 looks good too, just longer nodes and less branchy than #3. #2 is the odd one , not looking too desirable at this point , but I will wait until the final product is dried and cured before culling, unless they look just super pitiful in flower , which I dont expect.

Mtns Bubba s1

Mtns Bubba s1

I have missed a few updates , Heres whats up currently; my Bubba kush s1's are at day 18 of flowering. I had to toss the #2 , not only was it very runty , it seemed to be possibly mited... The #1 looked like the best before 12/12 , HOWEVER... now #3 looks like the one to keep , as it is displaying way better branching, I will wait til harvest/ cure to decide. One of the clones of these girls will be receiving some Ox pollen shortly ! certainly a bit more stretchy than ox but very sturdy looking as well.

I grew out a pack of these earlier this year and I had a similar odd ball similar to mtntrogger's...it ended up looking about the same as the rest except for a little but longer internode spacing. I'm going to grow my keeper out next to my alleged pre98...I'll post some pics up. They are VERY small right now. Painfully slow veggers, but the smoke is top notch:D

in herms way !

in herms way !

With great regret I make this post. I had a stomach virus and wasnt able to check on my flowering tent for a couple of nights. Last night I went in and discovered that both of my remaining Bubba s1s had hermed. I had asked on this thread if anyone had seen any herms in these seeds.... I got zero replies. I am obviously super bummed, not just because they hermed and most likely have pollinated the few other plants I was hoping to harvest, But more because I spent at least 10 months researching Bubba seeds, and Verdant seemed to be the best out there. I am not bummed on Verdant at all , as I havent seen any herm posts from him or anyone else on this thread. Just wonder what happened ? My room is at about 72 with lights on and around 60 with lights off, RH sits around 30. NO light leaks... I do have 2 beans left ,but will not have time to start them for quite a while as other projects are in motion and different beans need to be started. I was SOOOO hopeful and anticipating making the Bubba / Ox cross and possibly breeding an Bubba IBL as Verdant said he wanted to do as well. I havent killed off ther cuts I made YET, but I dont see a point in keeping herms around. These were chopped just after I took the pics, will use these lil flowers for hash production. No time for BS. This stings for sure , but These plants (besides the #2 runt) were amazing specimens , just beautiful plants that seemed to have great potentail. I hope this doesnt steer anyone away from Verdants gear, as I have a lot of respect for him. It seems like every one else has had great success with these beans, I just happened to have the bad luck (very bad) this time around. See you around a different thread.
peace, mtn

Thats unfortunate mtn, were there balls all over them or just a few in the preflower areas like the first two pics? Ive had genetic hermies before in the past that were making buds of both male and female parts that got thrown out, not anything from VGS btw it was some beans I made myself. Ive also had plants usually feminized seeds have a couple pollen sacks at a node or three that I just plucked off and kept an eye on and they ended up fine in the end. Not sure if that was the case here but either way its too late since you chopped them down. Sorry to hear about your bad experience, was looking forward to see your Bubba S1 x OX project happen.

BT, The balls were not at the base of every flower but fairly widespread on both plants , if it were only a couple I would have tried removing em, but there were more than a few, so I didnt want ruin whatever shot of getting ANY harvest I might have. At the moment I still have clones, but Will prolly toss em soon

wow thats strange mtn, as far as i remember this is the first report of herms in the bubba S1s and there have been a lot of packs sold over the last years. the fact that both have produced male flowers for you is strange and makes me wonder if there was another factor contributing to this. have you double checked your lights are switching on and off at the right time and that nothing has gone odd with the timer?
really sorry this happened, i know you were super excited about these... i would keep your grow space in close observation to make sure everything is as it should be.

looks like you caught it early so hopefully no flowers will have opened yet.

i found even reversing the bubba cut with CS was very slow going, the flowers took ages to open and there was very little pollen.

vitgreen - i will make more S1s at some point soon but it will be a few months at least before i have them in stock. i may have some other great news to share on a pure bubba line soon though, just too early to say much...

my last two of these s1s also threw some bananas around week 3-4. I'm pretty sure it was my faullt--they were stressed in many ways--rootbound, outdoor wintertime severe light dep, and temps that dropped below 50F a few times at night.

Q

quokka

Maybe a certain batch of pollen was less 'healthy' than others?

I read somewhere that pollen collected from early flowers can be less stable than when the plants is shedding large amounts......... i have no clue if that is correct though........

thanks moe, perhaps these are more capable of throwing nanners than i think, ive always found the bubba genotype to be rock solid in most ways.

quokka, pollen is pollen imo, i dont see how the genetic information it carries could change.

in this case though the big batch of S1s i produced was all made with the same batch of pollen.

Thanks Verdant, Yea , the first thing I did was check the timer, I know way too many people that have hermed a crop by having like one notch on a timer flipped at the wrong time. But I also have a Ox plant as well as a couple of Bruce Banner and a strain I made of Flo x Ox all in the same tent and none of the others have any male flowers, so I knew it was specific to the Bubba. @ Cool Moe , this was the 3rd to fourth week of flowering as you mentioned ! Thank for steppin in on this, I do wonder if my "off" temperatures were low enough to stress the bubba but not my current strains ? I have had lows at about 50 degrees recently.
