brownish/greyish leaf tips

I am currently growing a few strains, kalichakra and thai haze x skunk # 1, in some ffof mixed with perlite and ewc @ a small percent. My problem is the tips of my leaves on all my plants get this brownish grey tip on the older/middle leaves. Plants that are 2 weeks and plants that are 4 weeks old exzibit the same problems. Have never used ffof before nor have I ever had these problems, I'm guessing I need to maintain a lower ph with my water in this mix. I havent seen too much progression from the tips inwards to the leaves. the plants have been watered with just tap water thats sat for a night or two...I know my water contains chloramine, and I'm not sure of the ph but I know its 7 or more. So I would assume my ph is too high for my soil mix, and I should start adjusting it. I have a tester I just need some calibration solution and distilled water to get started, which I will attain today so I can check my current run-off and tap water ph. I'm sure I have been just locking out either calcium or magnesium but I wanna make sure first. Plants havent been fed anything other than the tap water. Sry I have no pics.

Should I just avoid my tap water all together?

Also say my soil is currently damp, should I wait for the soil to dry a bit to make adjustments or should I just get her done?

The mixture is burning them it sounds like, FFOF is bad for seedlings and smaller plants, the mixture should not be used and next time you should think about using a seed starter mixture to ensure they will not get burned.

You have any pictures?
WHat are you using to test the pH?
What is EWC?
Are all strains showing this problem? I am sure one strain is more affected than the others..... not all strains like or can tolerate hot mixtures.

hiya stitch, thanks for the reply.

Well Ya live and learn, and sorry I meant I am using FF Light warrior. So that may of lead ya in the wrong direction as to my troubles. I am using a hanna ph test meter, havent been but am starting today, so like I said in my first post they were being fed straight tap water unknown ph and unadjusted.

Ewc = earthworm castings

And yes both of my strains are exzhibiting the very tip of the older/middle leaves discoloration, definitely doesnt look like nute burn. I'm sure once I test my water here in the next 15 minutes i'll be able to give you a little more info as to how this problem occured.

and the verdict of my tap water after properly calibrating my pen with 4.0 and 7.0 solutions, is!!!

will it stop climbing please?! 7.5 and its within .1 accuracy

I think I have some run off although i bet its evaporated by now that I can test, I'll be back in a bit with more information

also I have a bottle of ph up and ph down I think its my advanced nutrients or an equal company that I will start using.

My babies must be hating me! the run-off ph is 7.9 which is just sad! Should I do a tiny flush with some ph adjusted water? If so what range should I adjust it to, to attain the desired ph?

I also have some cal-mag so If its recommended to add some of that I will. Thanks in advance.

You need to bring that pH down man, get some pH down and bring it to normal range 6,3 to 7.0/

Pics would really help out a lot in this case since your not using the FFOF mixture and the plants are showing tip burn, I am sure the pH has something to do with it though... pics would be nice :) I would not add anything yet until you get the pH fixed, anything you add will futher cause more damage. Except for pH adjusters.

thanks stich, I will allow the plants to suffer a bit since its not murdering them, and wait for the soil to dry out a tad, 1-2 days, then I'll give em some ph adjusted tea with a ppm of 2-300, the tea will just be distilled water + Earthworm castings and the required ph adjustments, unless you think this is a bad idea and I should just give them straight water thats been adjusted. I'm sure the 200-300 ppm is okay though.

Can you give me a good product to use to suppliment the micro nutrients that arent found in distilled/ro water? Or will the organics in the tea I plan on using in the future (from articles read here) be effecient? Definitely dont want some odd-ball defeciency. Is mixing tap water+distilled water a good idea, or just use adjusted tap water for the most part and distilled to leech/flush?
