Man that's crazy! Good thing I don't have any plants up and just seeds! Worse is I know one has seed stock. Thanks for the thread I'll read through it and pass the information along.
I know one of the guys has a flower room were all of the leaves suddenly looked like their curled up and died 4 weeks in flower or something.

I can't help with any methods of combating them.
I shut down, killed everything and waited a month. Sprayed, bleached, fogged, Hot Shot pest strips brought in and luckily I have not seen them since.

newby question.. how can you tell the difference between russet and spider mites??? Sorry for the hijack.. just curious

All I know about spider mites is the web's are a clear sign. You can also see their black bodies crawling around everywhere.... called the borg for a reason. Maybe I'll put some other pictures up from these infected plants tomorrow.
Spider mites are clearly visible to the naked eye, as is the damage they do to the leaves.
Russet mites are not visible to the naked eye until there are thousands forming what looks like a brown powder.
When I saw the title of this post I knew the answer before even opening the thread. I thought it was a powder of some sort too when I had them.

To anyone that knows, are Russet Mites in Southern Ontario? The reason I ask is because of all the years I have been on the forums I have only heard of regular mites, never Russet Mites. I have also had all forms of critters in my garden, but never them to my knowledge, and I am sure they would have made themselves aparent if I did. I could be wrong, but it didn't seem too common of a problem not that long ago. Now I am hearing about them all over the forums.
One other question, are Russet Mites harder to kill off then Two Spotted Mites (the Borg)? Thanks and if I have been under a rock for years and they have always been common, don't hesitate to say so. I got thick skin lol.

spiders are easy compared to russet
im having one helluva time trying to get rid of these russets....

bc i have had them 2 or 3 times exact same symptoms it looks like shitty brown keif covering the shoots
most recently i used an organic pesticide spray from home depot and got rid of them after a few sprays, physically removing any leaves or bad spots as well or sometimes just killing plants that had it bad seemed to help. i know rooms can get infected bad but I got rid of them more than once much much easier than everyone seems to play them out as the impossible bug to beat

While I advised my friends to kill these stupid white widow x bubba kush clones, one said he couldn't afford to cut, the other was stubborn as well wanting to keep them. I yelled at them both and told them to buy seeds haha! They both went to a grow store in Boulder and were given some sort of chemical spray to treat the plants with. It was behind the counter stuff like Eagle 20.

Find a product containing spinosad. I use captain jack's dead bug brew. This stuff is safe for spraying your plants and works wonders on pretty much anything that will eat your plant. Its an amazing product that you can spray your entire plant with throughout your entire grow, but I wouldn't spray it on any buds. When you smell it you will know why ahhaha. As far as I know it won't hurt you if you get it on the buds, but it smells like hell and is actually a bacteria, so I wouldn't want to smoke it. My understanding is that the bacteria actually dissolves the exoskeleton of anything that eats your plant. If it doesn't have an exoskeleton, then it is unaffected (ie catapillars, birds, deer, people etc, etc.) which makes this a great OMRI listed insecticide for use indoors and out, even if you're a tree hugger
