Briton Jailed for 0.003g of Cannabis in Dubai

Nothing new, really. Dubai's zero-tolerance policy is certainly out of hand.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/li...in_article_id=512815&in_page_id=1770&ito=1490

We've all heard the horror stories before. He was originally jailed in September. He's been given a four year sentence for the cannabis speck (literally.) Ridiculous. Sometimes I complain about lack of tolerance and harsh laws in the U.S. but I guess it could be worse, eh?

The other subjects the article mentions is also disturbing.

This is coming from the Daily Mail, a tabloid-type newspaper, fyi. Take almost everything they publish with kilos of salt.

I think the story is true. And Dubai is one of those countries where if you have THC in your blood, you can be arrested.

The other bit mentioned in the Mail article which sounds unbelievable is the guy who was arrested for having three poppy seeds on him from a Heathrow poppyseed bagel.

It's a crazy world. There aren't many countries which seem sane or reasonable anymore. Everyone is guilty - and that's the way they like it.

I just read some of the comments on that news story.

"That's the way it should be here."

"Sounds good to me - build more prisons and import these drug prevention controls here please. Many lives would be saved."

"It should be the same here."

"That's the way to deal with the drug problem in the UK."

"Good on these authorities for actually enforcing the law of the land, I have no pity for the suspects and criminals whom they have caught, some ignorant, some stupid and some simply brazen. It seems that suspect "profiling" is alive, well and working effectively in some parts of the world.

"It's a shame that our own establishment is so weak by comparison. "

What on earth is the matter with people? Has this world gone mad?

A lot of the people leaving these comments don't even seem to realise that Cannabis doesn't kill people. They seem almost beyond the realm of reason. Like some religious fanatic that no matter what proof they see, they simply won't listen. Ignorance at it's greatest.

That website also check, edit and filter comments. I left 2 comments on there and it seems they have filtered both of them. Both explaining the errors in peoples' judgement and correcting people. What a world we live in. :badday:

I agree with you entirely. What the hell is wrong with these people? Are they just misinformed or set in their ways? Are they completely retarded or what? I just don't understand it. I'm glad to see that you attempted to post comments on the website to criticize and educate, however, when the bias is so obvious they only want to hear one opinion anyway. Sad indeed. :badday:

Yeah its a true story........some other guy got busted for some vitamin supplement too that can be bought over the counter....

Its really hypocritical because in Dubai airport (a HUGE hub for air transport) there are enormous shops selling tons of tobacco and gallons of booze........but a speck of hash on the sole of your shoes will get you 4 years in some arab jail!!

Like they don't have a history in HASHISH...
Religions and Politics have destroyed freedom and choice, and prosperity.

If you can't live your life, what good is it to be alive. Foolish people let others tell them what to do, when, in all good faith, in their heart and soul, they know they should be able to, or rather, can do by just excercising free will and encouraging others to do so as well.

Peace.

fking ridiculous violations of human rights... to be human does not mean to give up any of your wants/needs so long as they do not directly harm others.

Kizzattack,

That newspaper is the Daily Mail, the biggest pile of propaganda BS in England, so please do not take any of the comments from the posters there seriously - they are all narrow minded and ignorant.

People in England are generally tolerant of cannabis, and it's not seen as a big deal, by the people and the law, so those comments are way off base.

Peace

to be fair why is the grooverider one the real story and that guy with the microscopic speck on his shoe not??? the speck on shoe one is entirely true just as much as the grooverider one..... in fact the grooverider one is slightly less ridiculous because it was a couple of grammes as opposed to .0003 or whatever it was, at least it was a piece big enough to be presented in court lol....i can just imagine the other one....Exhibit a, an empty looking sticky evidence clear wrapper lol

well...prior to Grooveriders arrest in Nov, which broke in the international media, we didn't hear that much about Dubai in the Daily Mail-i suspect their hacks either didn't know it existed or couldn't spell it.
Youth workers get busted all over the world with blimbs in their pockets-but i doubt that we'd hear quite so much about it if the media wern't on a Dubai roll atm-the irony is that they've not included the grooverider story coz they don't approve of DrumandBass, hoodies etc
