Bringing Hempy Back...(Some Questions About Hempy Buckets)

:woohoo: Loving the simplicity of the Hempy Buckets...Can anyone tell me what are some of the smallest containers they've used with this system? Pros and cons of these small containers through their experience? Any micro grows using them?

And finally, what's the low-down on algae, some say protect against, others say it doesn't matter, someone throw me lifeline on this one...:abduct:

2L cut down. I don't know if this counts as hempy cuz I have holes in the bottom. But as far as I could tell, the major benefit of the hempy method was getting all the bottom roots in pure perlite. Top soil is OF with 30% more perlite and some vermiculite. I've just began to test them out.

Thanks for the quick response, keep me posted on how it goes.

Nice AZ...So your boy flowers with the 32s also? I was tossing around the idea of using some 32 oz. Gatorade bottles. I'm finishing up the cab on a micro and the 32s kinda helped send me this direction in the first place, thanks for the input.

When I clone I use the straight 100% Perlite and it does the job, no doubt.

Nevermind this... we're not talking about the same thing

And quoting people for no referencing purpose is annoying..

I have a few DSD's and some Wonder Hazes that I started out in a 20 ounce pop bottles with the top of the bottle cut off. Algae started on a few of the slower drinking ones, I just used some aluminum foil tape around the bottles and a piece of cardboard over the top. They are working good for now but the roots fill that small space of pretty fast.

Far as I remember hempy intended the system to grow trees, not for micro systems. The purpose of it was to provide lots of root room and massive air supply to each. So scaling down a hempy bucket would basically make it a bubbler system.

I use the idea of the system but with a couple differences, I was coolers (expensive but worth it) I added sprayers to make it semi-aeroponic and I use higromite rather then lava rocks for their silica content and other minerals.

Thanks Pete!

Thanks GIG! You're the only other person to mention algae, so far, is it really that big of deal? I've had some very experienced growers (even on here) tell me no. What'cha think?

yes alge can be a pain for hempy growers in the beginging when you must apply water more frequently till the roots hit the rez on the bottem....its not a real bad thing just an annoyence...simply brush off the green perlite an top off with freash stuff....also never use see threw growing containers...they must be lightproofed first....alge on the top an alge in the rootzone are 2 totaly different beasts....an while yes this method was
originally" set up to grow tree's...it can an is used with great succes in micro an mini cabs everywhere....at another site i have a giant hempy thread if you'd like me to pm you the link lemme know....peace az

Absolutely, PM away! I truly appreciate your input. I like the simplicity of the Hempy style and figured it could be used with success in a micro, etc. In the 32s, how tall are the plants when they finish? I'm still new (to the site), so I'm not sure whether I can PM you and all that stuff (#of posts, etc.)? Anyhow, fire away and I will take your advice on light-proofing the containers.

Thanks again.

i have clone and grown hempy style in 32 oz containers to 12 quart buckets.
A amzingly simple thing that grows great.
as far as algae growing on top of the peralite, i have allways left it alone. When my canopy fills in the algae goes BYE-BYE
The hardest part about the hempy is the first three days... Good Luck pax.

AzGrOw-N-sMoKe - Just realized I can't send or receive PMs until 50 posts so I'll be patient and try to stay in touch again when I reach 50 (+).

Yea B I started some them in little plastic cups before I transfered them to the pop bottles. When I was in these little cups is when I got algae, although I do not think it caused to much trouble. I believe I have read on here the only problem with algae is that it may cause ph fluctuations, I think that it will mostly bring your ph down. With that and the ugly green on my white perlite background I thinks its ugly and I do not want anything thing to do with it. lol
