I'm just starting out.
I admit It's challenging to try and understand the nuances of this subject.

I am very inexperienced but, I am hoping to breed from the plants I'll have.
I have three strains that I will put in to flower at the same time and plan on harvesting any pollen that might develop so I can pollinate a few buds on the females.
Here is what I'll have after this current plant finishes.
Nepali ~ Landrace from Baglung/Nepal
Ethiopian Highland ~ Landrace from Ethiopia/Africa
Mazar-i-Shariff ~ Landrace from Mazar-i-Shariff/Afghanistan
They are in veg right now and I won't know their sex for awhile.
Has anyone had any of these strains crossed ?
What got me thinking about these strains is that they grow near my latitude, the Nepali is said to continue flowering even under snow. I believe the Mazar has that same attribute.
Do you think this is worthwhile to try? I will need seeds in the future as I'm finding it hard to keep clones and remain within the laws of my state.
Taking clones just before the plants go in to flower, that leaves me growing clones for 6-12 weeks before the room could accept them.
I'm hoping to cross the Nepali with the Mazar and the Ethiopian with the Nepali

Alleles are interesting..
They are in pairs at a locus. To quote Wikipedia
So are these the characteristics ? They are code that fit in the same gene locus so are they carried some how from generation to generation?
I mean all of the possible codes ( alleles ) ??

It just might be, But some testing would have to be done to assure this!

What I'm wondering is how all the alleles are in the seed and only one is "locked in" I gather.. If I understand it's the forms of the gene??

HansHanf. I 've learned a lot from this thread. Excellent work glasspackedbowl, thanks to you I know more about what I'm doing and I'm now germinating my first F1 hybrid seed from my current grow. I can hardly wait to see what happens. 
I am happy to help you'll. Were one big Ganja smokin family here. I share what I learn so you can learn with me. We all have to rise together with our info. When I started breeding I had no idea but what I was doing but I was doing it by the book as if I had a natural ability to do so! I have a lot more info to share. Lots more work to be done. I will be doing a test grow in the near future I hope for My dear friend ZepplinDood. Also I hear that Ronley will be growing my Stankonia indoors this round. Cant wait to watch. It will be the 5th time it was grown. I hope to start breeding part 2 intermediately challanged!
