Breathing technique?

I read somewhere that some med users are taught a method of smoking by their doctors. They take a hit as usual, exhale until smoke starts to exit, then breathe it back in, exhale until a little smoke has escaped and repeat until there is no smoke. From what i understood the logic behind this is that the alveoli of the lungs can only absorb THC from smoke that is in contact with it, and when you just hold the smoke in for long periods, it just sits stagnant and really contributes nothing but cutting oxygen off from your brain. If you keep the smoke moving though, more of the smoke and THC is able to come in contact with the repiratory surface..

has anyone heard of this?

Dr. Jay taught this to us all back in the days of Overgrow. Tried and true method for maximaxing each hit.....

This is very interesting, I'll be able to test it out in a few hours. I've never heard of this method, sounds good though.

I use that technique when I smoke in public - I load my pipe with a single hit, and then use the "breathing" to disguise my exhale so no-one sees the blast of smoke.

I never thought of it being more efficient - but it makes sense.

i've been doing it for a while, im really not sure i get any higher, but i think i might have a cough because of it.

I like this...I'm going to try it. Sort of works like what I used to do when I was younger. I got one of my bags that they gave me to deliver my news papers when raining with, and when I would smoke I would blow into the bag then suck it back out, and repeat untill smoke was clear.

Yup, being doing a version of this for quite some time. Usually I'll exhale about 1/4 of the hit then breath in more fresh air. Then repeat. It works well, introducing more oxygen swirls all that smoke in your lungs helping more smoke reach the surface of your lungs. Does a pretty good job, although I'm not sure there is a big noticable difference.

yup, i was also told this by a physician. he didn't give as much detail though, thank you :D
 
Holding in smoke of any type is bad for the health of your lungs. It only makes sense that a Dr. would recommend this dilution of smoke with small amounts of oxygen. Also, this way you are not starving your brain of needed O2. Whatever works though man. I find that I harsh out more and cough up more phlem from holding hits in. Just smoke one more!

LOL at the toon, i learned about the wacko in my last year of high school.

as for the teachnique, as someone else said... "i use this method in public"

me too, this is how i ghost a hit... i've smoked in very public places successfully multiple times... this doesn't get you any higher though... THC isn't THAT strong, so something so minute as a breathing technique won't boost the high, sorry.

That probably works on a psychological basis but THC breaks down rapidly after it is combusted. There is hardly anything left after about 20 seconds and the reason stale bong smoke doesnt get you high.

A study has shown that holding cannabis smoke in one's lungs for longer periods of time does not conclusively increase THC's effects on psychological test performance.[18] However, a more recent study by the same authors indicates that a longer breath-holding duration increases the subjective ratings of ones' "high."[19] This latter study also found that a long breath-holding duration decreased subjects' subjective ratings of "calmness" more than a short breath-holding duration. Additionally, subjects who held cannabis smoke in their lungs for a long duration felt slightly less "relaxation" while subjects who held the smoke for a short period gave higher "relaxation" ratings.

that sounds like a waist of time. And I would never ever think about smoking in public anymore. Not since i actually have something to live for screw that.

What about when someone vaporizes and say, leaves a volcano bag half full for a long period?
