Branches breaking

I'm having multiple branches break on various seeds. I usually run clones outside and was wondering if it's normal for lower to mid branches to break off from the main stem. What are some options to prevent and fix this issue in the future?

Thanks

If your branches are exceptionally weak its most likely caused by a issue in the root zone. Did your plants get root bound before transplant? It can definitely cause weak branches. Id cut off any weakly formed branches they often arent even worth trying to support. Lollipop your plants and let it concentrate its energy on the sturdy branches.

Tie them to the main stalk, problem solved. You're welcome for the simple solution. No sense cuttin off branches that will produce good bud, I gotta do it every year when plants get too big.

yeah man if there outdoor, definitely want to cage them and stake them, imo its mandatory, atleast 2 cages per plant, one inner done asap, one outer done before flowering strech

O and try silica added to every watering should strengthen up your stems and leaves gl

Yep! Buy a roll of jute twine..Tie a loose loop around the middle of the branch and another loose loop about a foot or so higher on the stalk...

I can't use cages or nets where I live, because they're too obvious..
But my large girls sometimes need some extra support, just in case it gets real windy, like before a big thunderstom..
What I do is buy 1/2 inch, concrete re-bar. It comes in 20 foot sticks. Cut them into 3 pieces, each one 6ft. 8 inches...
Drive them into the ground right beside the main stalk and tie 1 or 2 loose loops around the re-bar and the stalk... Then tie your branches up to the re-bar... No windstorm, short of a tornado will knock your girls down then and the supported branches are less likely to snap off either.

edit: if more height is needed, I find it easier to just use re-bar tie wire to just tie another 4 foot piece on to the top of the one in the ground...
This way I dont need a ladder to hammer the first piece in the ground to begin with...

dude if your using rebar and driving it into the ground u gotta get a post driver/pounder, these things are gold... http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-Fence-Post-Driver-901147HD/204331909

...and even the home depot worker tld me to use it and then return it, no sledgehammers to drive posts, shits dangerous...

other than that shit, man i dont know how u grow outdoor without cages, i wouldnt want to... gl

some strains have weak branch/meristem nodes. I did a bunch of Malawi crosses last year and my Malawi/Malawi ( two different malawi strains) had a huge stripping proble. the zamal/Malawi had branches the size of meristems at the branch/meristem juncture and no chance of branch stripping.

gaff tape is great. start out on the branch a little bit and do wraparound. bind the node to upper meristem part and wrap the node and area above. problem is that the meristem was also not very strong in this hybrid. meristem snapped.

I really like eastbaygrower's triple cage idea.

I ran lines from nearby trees to other nearby trees and placed branches on top of these lines for extra support. guerrilla grows don't allow for cages in my area. too conspicuous. I used trot line. it's treated to be rot proof and very strong. is black so less conspicuous than light bright colored twines. I used the branches to hide most of the trotline fom aireal surveillance.

^ cops saw this site from the air anyway due to their massive size ( yield was aprox. 2.5#'s trimmed product per plant). giant bright green colas in October/November was a dead giveaway. I actually watched the police helicopter going in a just above tree top level and thoroughly examining the entire area. they staked this 10 female garden out for 6 weeks (boots on the ground) using intermittent on the ground teams. scary stuff.

damn idiit, scary stuff, i grow legally in my backyard lol thats why i can use the multi cage system, i did grow indoors when it was illegal but huge gorilla grows is just BALLSY!

and much respect to watching the cops trying to watch you, i love it :) i just got jammed up today by the drug task force, pulled me over for a tow hitch, ran my shit, obligatory search of the truck and all they could say was theres alot of unexplainable shit LOL i was
JUST leaving my grow and had supplies in the cab

keeping this thread on track... i too have a cookie frost (platinum cookies x girl scout cookies) bush that is just how you describe, its got an inch stem with about 1/4inch branches coming off it at a complete 90 degree angle, this one is definitely not meant for outdoors... i actually am trying to contact the breeder and let him know

^ I was walking my dog at a nearby park and heard the chopper thumps nearby. when these guys see a "patch" they go crazy. you can hear the turbines change sound into "hunt mode". I went to a hill in a school parking lot and watched the show from about 1 mile away.

I came into the grow thru the woods out of habit. paths are for bring stuff in during the springtime. woods are for stealth in the fall. :)

I lose 1/2 ( on average over time) of my sites every year.

not a game for the weak of heart. :)

Man I woulda gone fuckin postal by now!!:wallbash:

might be too late this year but add boron. Boron makes strong branches.
do a soil test and get boron up to 2 ppm. Neighbors used to call my place Broken Branch Farm but we cured that last year and had almost no broken branches. Saved #'s.
