Hey guys
I need to build a box to put my ac in so I can vent out the hot air...I got a window unit but I cant put the ac in the window cause my window is to small..I wondering if theres a thread here on how its done right... :chin:

I saw a thread over at B reed bay about using a rubbermaid tub for the box around the AC and connecting a blower and ductin it out..
the guy wrote this up awhile ago so i PMed him to see if it still works..

I've seen a few folks detail it in threads here at IC but I rarely bookmark threads....if you keep looking you'll find somethin'...check the thread history of Baby Hughie...that was the thread that inspired me...forgot the name of the thread though, sorry 'bout that

I had to build mine twice. Initially I made a mistake & just enclosed the entire exhaust side of the unit, relying on cracks and crevices as a passive...but the negative pressure (I'm guessing) from the exhaust blower (cheap Hydrofarm 465 cfm) created issues for the AC heat exchange....
what finally worked was when I just had the box around the back-end....leaving the side vents exposed (my model only exhausted from the very back)...one could use an active intake.
I sat the AC on 3 x 5 gal buckets, then built a 3 sided box and used panda plastic and taped it at the top ...

I used the blower to extract...also housed ballasts in this "heat box"...

Here's some pictures

Okay so let me get this right all i have to do to make this work is box the rear of the ac in and run a 6 in" exhaust fan in the back and tee into my ducting correct??

BUMP.

Anyone have one of these setups? A wall mount AC used in a box and then exhausted through a dryer vent?

yes as explain before a few post up the back is the exuast, those side and top grills that you see is the intake, if you look in and see that fan is blowing air from those intake through those fins and out goes hotair in the back. So box the back anyway you like have a fan to exuast that hot air box and if you want it to be more efficient supply the intake with cool air from a cool air source. I aluminum tape all the intake grills and duct a intake from a cool air source. GL on your venture and show us some pix of how it goes, i can't imagine a AC not fitting a window.

Thanks. So with a hole for fresh air coming in on the sides and an exhaust for the hot air on the back side?

Cool. I will take pics when I start this project.
