bottom watering

I have a bunch of 1 gallon pots filled with soil in a large tray and have to take them out to water as it is all bunched up in the tent.

I have been thinking of putting water in the tray instead and using capillary action to water the plants. How well does this work and what amount of water should I use and how often to water?

I just use tap water as the soil is pre amended. About 12 ounces of water per plant and around every 3rd day or every other day.:tiphat:

you can use a rope and put half in the dirt and let other half hang outta the pot into the water. never done it myself but see it used very often, i dont like the fact of water sitting in tray for to long, just asking for bugs and mold, but it has been done and very effectively, search a little more and you will find examples.

not sure how your set up but if u have a tray in there, you could always do a flood and drain if that possible for you. i think that would be easiest, just need a small pump in your rez and your set

^^ Thanks for posting. I do not have any flood and drain I would just let the water set there. No ropes either, do not want to get into anything tricky like that.

As long as your reservoir isn't too deep, and the plants suck up the standing water in around a day, you shouldn't have to worry about bugs or algae. I don't use soil, so I can't speak of the effectiveness, but the link in my sig is a long-ish thread about bottom-feeding in coco that might be of interest.
