blue's first grow

I have been lurking and soaking up knowledge here for a while, gathering supplies in preparation for my first grow. I didn't plan to start until I had everything together, but i've been weed-less for weeks and I need a harvest asap.

And so it started...Friday October 14, 2005 10/10 White Rhino beans from Nirvana popped using the paper towel method. I promptly planted them into a mix of MG moisture control (with coco coir), vermiculite, perlite, and earthworm castings.

This is to be a small closet grow, I have two fluro fixtures with 2-40w bulbs (one cool and warm white each I believe) running 24/7 for veg, and I have a 1000w hortilux hps batwing for flowering. I picked up a pyrex bake-a-round tube as the hps isn't going to work in there without good ventilation, but im not going to have the money to buy an inline fan for another 30 days... :(

Feel free to shoot any questions my way as im sure I will have plenty of my own.

It's exciting isn't it?

Good luck in everything you do.

You know, sometimes I wish I could go about this with the excitement that I had the first time I held a real pot leaf in my hand. It was so exotic and naughty. I find myself trying to recapture those feelings as I go about my work even to this day.

Have fun!

Thanks for all the love guys. :D

Crazy Composer - It is exciting, I find I can't wait to get home after work to check on them.

One thing I had a question about was the rumpled/deformed looking leaves...Is this a mutation or some fault of mine? I will get better pictures to show what I mean when I get back tonight..

My intro thread is here in case you missed what im all about.

hey blue ,, it looks like were the seed shell was attached too long , and messed with the growth .. or it could be a humidity change at the time of growth ,, just make sure there is low to no feeding for now ,, foliar feeding is ok with very mild solution, and raise the lights or take them out from under till dry .. but no worries on the leaf,, new growth looks fine , always watch the new growth comming out .. if it looks good chances are everything is good ,, some ppl see old problems , like yellowing on leaves ,, well plant could have fixed itself , but won't repair the bad or damaged leaf ,, and ppl tend to treat this as a problem .. when the new growth looks good ,, they see the bad leaf , and thnk they still have problems .. they can make matter's worse by feeding or rreacting to the old problem

Thanks for the tips SunSimluator, especially the bit about keeping an eye on the new growth for problems...I never thought of it like that.

I haven't fed the plants yet, I figure the earthworm castings I mixed into the soil will be good untill they are developed enough to use the Fox Farms Grow Big (6-4-4).

Out of all the advice you have gleaned from ICmag, other boards and friends; I always tell new growers the two MOST IMPORTANT ones are:

Over Watering Kills

PATIENCE

Semper Fi & Stay Safe!

If you are going to grow again, maybe keeping a log of what you do / don't do will help with future grows.

They look happy to me. Perhaps a touch of veg fert would do them nicely. They are showing signs of insufficient amounts of available N. Not an emergency or anything though  The sign is those reddening stems and leaf veins.

Good luck on the grow. I know the first time I smoked my own home grown, I was worried that it wouldn't be any good, if I had messed it up, etc. The moment the buzz set in I knew I my eyes had been opened to a new world of delights. All the other harvest after that one have been special, but, nothing replaces the feeling of accomplishment like that first finished bit if buddage.
