Blower/Inline Size for 1000w HPS?

Hey everyone, i took a long break from growing but i'm thinking about starting up again. I'd like to get some new equipment so i can make sure everything goes smoothly. I had a few problems my last few grows and want to get some of the kinks worked out. I have a question that i figured you knowledgeable dudes can help me with:

I have a 1000W HPS with an aircooled hood, everything works fine and everything but i'm wondering if i should get a new blower to make sure temps don't get out of control. I have a 265 cfm Dayton Blower at the moment, and when i've test run it with the 1000w HPS it seems to keep the light cool enough even after the light has been on for awhile.

But will 265cfm be enough to keep the light cool when it's been on for 18 hour intervals? Or should i go with something higher like a 500 cfm inline/blower?

the best thing to do is do a test run and monitor the temps. BUT, there is a fan size calculator somewhere, do a search and you should find it. I think a 1000w requires somewhere around 200 cfm's min. I personally run a 6" vortex on my 1000w which is rated somewere around 450cfm's.

Depends on size / volume of room, duct resistance, pressure, ambient temperatures, and so on... but a ~400cfm 6" inline centrifugal will typically get the job done. I recommend a muffler.

Yea, i'm most likely gonna go with a 6" Vortex Inline when i get the cash. I wish i had gone with a vortex instead of buying the dayton. I didn't think to hard about how strong of a fan i would need when i got it. Thanks for the info.

I'm thinking about a muffler, although where i will be growing is in a fairly secluded area. No houses near me and it's very low key. No one ever bothers me, and where my grow area is the sound shouldn't be able to be heard unless you are inside the house. Good thought though.

I actually got another question and figured i'd ask it in this thread even though it doesn't pertain to the fan subject:

Normally i root clones using rockwool cubes and a humidity dome/tray. The only problem was that it was taking about two weeks for most of the clones to start rooting. The temps were a little low though, so that's probably the reason why they weren't rooting fast. I'm most likely gonna buy a heat mat to keep em warm while cloning. But as far as the cloning setup would it be better to go with a bubble cloner? or will using plain old rockwool cubes and sticking the clones in there work fine?

im thinking about a vortex for my 1k also. since my cheep econo 450 crapped on me. the vortex gas a 5 year warranty. that's a plus.

Hello SweetIndica2,

For cloning I would highly recommend a bubble cloner.. They can be cery cheap, and highly effective!

I would check out the DIY Link O'RAMA: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=40637

But here's a few to choose from.....

its been argued many of times... one man's cloning method is anothers death trap, you just gotta find what works for you. and a heating mat will be a plus.
