Bloom time

Snook

Still Learning
I been doin this for some time and its, at this point, all good. I've done allot of reading about it all. And for what I do and how I do it, it all makes me happy. One thing though has never been pointed out directly into black or white, if there is a black or white answer.

When a breeders say a strain is a 9-10 week strain , are the recommending to start the 9-10 week clock when first changing to bloom timing (12/12) or upon appearance of first white hairs usually around 14-21 days after switching to bloom, 12/12? and additionally with reference to tricomes colors, would a 9-10 week strain supposed to have cloudy/few red condition of ripeness at the same 9-10 weeks? My 10 week strains (mostly hybrids) can go 12-14 weeks before cloudy/red trics.

I'm not looking to get into Indica/Sativa/Hybrid specificity, generally.

I start my count at day ZERO..

I start my count at day ZERO..

I use flower times as a guide to check on trichs.

When the plants are ripe  then I pick them, like tomatoes

I too do the same 420 but what's the correlation between the two? is there any correlation or am I lookin for the jackalope? Many go with what the breeder suggests.. after all he's the breeder and making the recommendations. I've never cut a 50 day strain on the 50th day from 12/12 but 64 or 70 days. hybrids go suggested cut at 65 days, 84 up to 100 days when trics are cloudy/red. I also feel yield will go up, its 2 more weeks or so of bloomin.

I tend to mentally add 10 days minimum to whatever the breeder says. Some are much more exact than others.
It is possible that some of the more unscrupulous among them will be somewhat economical with the truth, assuming that a faster flowering time will equal more sales.
As 420 said - it's a guideline more than anything, they'll tell you when they are ready.

As I understand it, the breeders estimate of finishing time starts from the switch to 12/12 for a plant grown from a clone, not from a seed.:tiphat:

..... but yes, always expect to add 10 days (at least!) to get fully cloudy trichs.

so there you have it! two replies, one day zero (420), one +10+ days (Bgreenback) and comic giggle throws ina different wrinkle, clones not seeds.. <would never think that, theyre sellin seeds, but watt do I know.

no mention of tric color timing and breeders suggestions..

definitive.

It's always nice to get the same opinion from different people isn't it? :)

Lol...the reason I asked. An 8 week strain finishing in September vs. an 8 week strain finishing in October. I would say it would be from the start of flowering. Nobody flips the sun.

I'm starting my next run..clone selection fem seeds

I'm starting my next run..clone selection fem seeds

How it works for me...

1) Sprout seeds
2) Plant in Solo Cups under big CFL's (18/24) a couple of weeks

3a) Take clones and label with phenotype #s - once rooted flip
3b) From seedling plant and wait until it is big enough to flip for desired yield

4a) Determine which phenotype you wish to grow out. (Preserve the mothers if you want to finish phenotypes and have room) Take clones from mothers and veg out.
4b) From seed Flip when you want - Day Zero is the Day you flip

5) So the day you flip from seed or clone is when breeder guidelines start.

I have a couple of 818 Headband and 6 Pineapple Chunk sprouts in 1 gallon pots and looking pretty good (in Veg tent) I can see the phenotypes I will probably want to run already.

In a couple of weeks I will up-pot the best looking 4 X Pineapple Chunk into 3 gallon pots to Veg. (Take more clones of best of run)

The best looking of the rest will go into 5 gallon pots for outdoor. They will finish when they finish if they survive the normal outdoor issues.

The Pineapple Chunk will finish when they are ready. The breeders guidelines will be noted.

We'll see how it goes in a few months.:plant grow:

bloom time is supposed to be from start of 12/12 and the harvest time is usually 2 weeks off...yeehaw..I think they give the number of days till you could cut it down and smoke it not truly finished tho...I almost always am adding 2 weeks to the stated number of days...bogs gear tends to be on time tho...FWIW

snook aint hard to catch ....yeehaw.,,I caught em all the time in florida

I know some who have lived here for 20+ years that have never had snook. If ya put the time in to the right places, you'll always be rewarded. whatcha catching in SD? Up in NY used to catch and release Hudson river trout, ugh! crude muthas.. theyre extinct now though.

I visited a friend on the west coast of FL, he'd been living there for 10 years or so. He always was trying for the Snook but had never caught one, even had a book titled "How to Catch the Elusive Snook" or something like that. The first night out I put one in the bucket and I don't think he has gotten over it to this day.
