Blending In; the key to success....

It's always a good idea to blend in with your neighborhood as much as possible if you live in an urban area. My neighbor is litterally 15' from my house, I can pee off my porch and hit his. :moon: The idea is that if you take care of your yard and publicly show interest in plants then neighbors are far less likely to think anything odd. Just last week the neighbor across the street asked me how my peppers and tomatos are doing, I was a little confused at first but he went on to say that he had noticed when my curtain fell and light could be seen outside at 3 AM. The first thing he thought of was that i was getting peppers and tomatos ready to plant soon. I always do this so he thought nothing of it except to ask how big they are already. Neighbor's see me carrying loads of dirt in and out all year round but think nothing of it because I also have one of the largest tropical cactus collections in my state. The neighbors have all seen my cactus' in bloom and think nothing of plants being cared for during winter.

What else do you grow?

I think he meant, 'How are your "peppers and tomatoes" doing' :D

If you hesitated to answer and reacted strangely at first then he confirmed his suspicions...not everything is black and white man.

Of course I could be way off...just something to ponder :chin:

if they are that curious, then It is time to actually garden outdoors, or garden something else indoors for good cover. I garden various flowers and vegetables, some peruvian torch cactus's (which I no longer have, buy a pack of 50 seeds for around 5-10$ and you can sell each individual cactus after a year for 10-20$ a piece, so thats an extra 500-1000$, but unless you are growing alot, they aren't worth waiting a year to get big enough). They are your neighbors, and even if they are just being neighborly, it would be good to produce something to show off to them, in case they do suspect you are growing cannabis. better safe than sorry, and it is fun to do anyways. If you know your neighborhood well, and there are a lot of housewives, you could even start growing classes for them, or a friendly growers group, anything to get your neighbors involved in growing regular plants, so when anyone that might ask questions later, will have their concerns put at ease. 'does he grow pot?', 'nah he just grows your average flowers and vegetables'. oh and try to make sure that no one can see your lights or plants from the outside ever. if you have an extra room, and it is either too cold to grow outside or whatever, use that one for the regular plants, with the window open, where people can see in if they are nosy. also throw some regular plants you are starting off in the window sills.

Oh so that's you!!!

I don't grow anything not even a good lawn. I sneak dirt in at 3am. If you don't see me those three mins you missed me for three months.

Ok, so here's my yard. I really don't think any of the neighbor's suspect anything. My neighborhood is majority old people. I help them with their gardens all the time (tilling, planting, etc..) and the ones that I don't; I'm not worried about cause I know they are smokers and if anything they'd try to rip my plants not turn me in. This I can guarantee you; getting in my yard/greenhouse is easy enough, getting back out with your limbs intact is not! 1 Shepherd, I Dalmation and 1 Pitbull sleeping in front of the door with an alarm that will wake me at any hour. Mj is one of the more least expensive of some of my plants. My immediate nextdoor neighbor will shoot if you get in the yard unrecognised (crazy Vietnam Vets), anyway the point is I feel secure with a personal grow and minimal plants.

P.S. I've also noticed that if you take the time to learn the Bot Latin for your plants then people will tend to ignore your "plant ramblings" and ignore just about anything you do with plants.

and just for good measure here's a flower for any pretty girls :pimp3:

For indoor plants, cactus are good, spider plants, tulips, amaryllis, really just about anything that you can get at HD/Lowe's.

I'm thinking about growing some cacti but right now I have a ton of orchids and of course my mushrooms but for the most part those are legit.

I was gonna grow some orchids but I think instead I'm going to start growing a few varieties of peppers. That way I've got something I can give out to my family and friends, and that way if they ever see/hear anything to do with me and plants, they don't even think twice about it.

I started several kinds of peppers- Golden Habanero, Barney peppers, Chicken heart peppers, etc. Those things take forever. The last frost around here isn't until early June. I also have several kinds of roma tomatoes to start including a Burpee type called "Big Mama". The biggest roma I've seen. I can't wait to start making some of that high octane salsa.

It goes a long way sharing legit harvests with the neighbors not only will they do the same with you but they don't pay attention to grow things. Of course not all neighbors are "neighborly" but most of my neighbors are 50+ and have gardens so I share knowledge and new growing techniques that apply across the board and in return I get respected for growing things. I've found that it's created about as safe of an environment as possible in an urban setting.

Next time your out DIYing at HD or Lowes or wherever, pick up a couple plants and give 'em a little cfl. If you can grow an annual under cfl then so will partial light tropicals very nicely.

It might be worth noting that I am a younger guy (-30 yrs old), so I went that extra step so as not to be surrounded by old people who cause me problems. :kissass:

Im always a little worried about neighbors wondering why Im always around the plants.hehe. But honestly in a neighborhood with alot of older types people usually don't complain unless you make a disturbance, like loud music after 10-12 kinda shit.
Traffic, in and out of the house will cause suspicsion though ie if your dealing or somthing.

Personally im starting up a vegtable garden to cover up the plants im going to grow in the ground.
