$15B narcoterrorism war to be outsourced

The U.S. Defense Department has invited five contractors to bid on elements of a new, multibillion dollar effort to combat the global flow of illegal drugs allegedly used to finance terrorism.

Awarded by the Pentagon’s Counter-Narcoterrorism Technology Program Office in Dahlgren, Va., the contract vehicle has a potential value of $15 billion over five years. One participant is ARINC, a Maryland-based provider of airline communications systems.

“This gives us the opportunity to bid on this work,” said Linda Hartwig, an ARINC spokesperson. “We don’t have a lot of details yet, but we do know that this is an expansion of what [the U.S] is already doing to fight drug trafficking, and that 80 percent of the work will be overseas.”

Hartwig said the other participating vendors are defense giants Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, and security contractor Blackwater USA. Blackwater confirmed its participation, but the other vendors did not respond to inquiries.

The vendors will compete for a series of task orders covering a wide range of products and services. These could include anti-drug technologies and equipment, special vehicles and aircraft, communications, security training, pilot training, geographic information systems, and in-field support.

According to ARINC, training elements could include instruction for border police, the construction of shooting ranges and the integration of aircraft-mounted drug detection systems.

ARINC has assisted U.S. drug interdiction efforts since 2002, when it joined the State Department’s Air Bridge Denial program.

Within the Pentagon, the CNTPO is the Pentagon’s lead agency for developing new technology to “disrupt, deter and deny” narcoterrorism. Much of this work relates to prototyping new communications and sensor systems. :fsu:
:badday: please share this with others,, makes me cringe... be well every one, take care of each other..

i have to say my country is disgusting me in new ways on almost a daily basis :badday:

Oooohhhhhhh, I get it.
Invade Afghanistan, where we let the poppy crop grow bigger and better than it has in many years...a bumper crop. Then, that will allow us to "create a drug based terror threat" that keeps the military and Blackwater busy for years to come. That sure sounds like good business!

:wallbash:

And wheneverr I alk to my mom, she's surprised and horrored to hear me say things like "I love my country, but distrust my government"

Aaah, if only things were as simple as the time she in which she came up. Different world now.

Oh well.
I aint gonna worry about it, I don't buy imports. Domestically grown cannabis here. Cookie leaves them poppies alone.
Unfortunately, the above story means we're all very easily considered "a domestic threat" even though nothing we do terrorizes anything but our lungs.

Peace yall.

Wish they'd have Halliburton/KBR run it instead. Then it would be more of a Keystone Kops type of operation instead or armed mercenaries...

i dont know if i like the idea of hired guns working with the DEA, especially w/in our borders.. they can make weapons and work with technology, but i dunno about that. lots of innocent ppl could get hurt

US tax dollars pay to train the military who then reitre with full benefits and then go to work for Blackwater who then sells their services at inflated prices back to the military. Its all been a dodge to void a draft and bring home the fact that this is nuts. They could train more military but who is signing up these days. I hope Bush is forced to send the twins before he's out of office.

when i was in iraq we used to see black water all the time. guys are f*ckin nuts. big ass fifty caliber machine guns mounted on the back of civilian trucks. they pretty much make sf look like little pus*y bitches. i wouldnt want this to happen either, but you wouldnt have to worry about going to jail, you would need to be worried about being alive if you have anything to do with those guys. its pretty ridiculous. they get paid a minimum of 300gs a year they are over there, and most soldiers are applicable for food stamps. im pretty much done with this country.

oh, and just for the record, **** haliburton/kbr

this whole planet is screwed up. and growers like us need to be protected by the government cuz soon, after they have killed all the rainforests. they will be looking for peoplr to cultivate fast growing plants to curb the depletion of oxygen.

HAHAHAHAHAHA..... Yeah, that worked really well for you all last election too, huh?

I think you guys are taking the threat of Blackwater a little too seriously. First off, they don't all get paid a minimum of 300K a year, more like closer to half of that. I have a friend who was a scout sniper for the USMC for 3 tours in Iraq. He now works for Blackwater making 135K per tour, which lasts about 8-9 months. I really don't care who you are, 135K for 9 months of putting yourself in a war zone is NOT worth it, IMO. There is no price on your life.

That being said, my friend has put his life on the line protecting this country and the people in it. It makes me sick to drive down the street and watch people protesting the very troops who are risking their lives to protect out freedoms.

Do you all really think that Blackwater is going to come kick in your door and raid your house? Come on, lets take a couple second break from smoking and think about that for a minute. You may have something to worry about if you are importing or exporting hundreds of pounds of heroin or cocaine, but do you really think blackwater cares about weed? Maybe if they are going to bust a 60KW warehouse, but not anything most of us on this site have to worry about.

This thread is funny....

I dont see where anyone can get away with thinking that blackwater usa bares no immediate threat to us pot growers. a very quick google search for blackwater usa reveals 2 articles on their violent and unjust tendencies.Article 1 - is one example of what seems to a common trend with these guys in iraq. I'd hate to mix this example with any sort of christian belief mixed into their foundation, assuming the statement made earlier was true.Article 2 - pretty much the same thing. .

In their eyes are we any different iraqis(criminals)? I would like to think so, but for some reason it's hard for me to swallow that idea. Once the war is over they will be looking for more work. I hope your thoughts will prove me wrong texasluv, but i cant even begin to wrap my head around that one.

"Real soldiers" are not terrorist. They get paid more because "real" soldiers are just the diversion. The question is who can employ these terrrorist? 911? I believe they just dropped the USA for Worldwide.
