I'm just glad video cards are affordable again.

About 3 years ago I got a good price on a 2160P curved screen Samsung.

But when I went to buy a video card, it was right when they were $500, because the Bitcoin people were buying em all.

Anyway, finally got a good 2160p card for $150.


I talked to a Bitcoin dealer on Friday. He says it's going to $100,000. I do not agree. I don't think the Bitcoin market has existed long enough to establish historical precedent.

Bitcoin, Schmidtcoin, it's anonymous coins which will remain forever. Bitcoin is **not** anonymous.

Spam email works, because 1-3% still respond. When it cost pennies to send out 100's of thousands of emails, it still pays.

My partner and I used to run the systems for a telemarketing phone op, nothing big, but wow did I get a look into how those places run - and the psychology of telemarketing.

It translates pretty directly to direct-mail and spam: it’s around 3% percent of the contacts on ANY list, they will not only respond, but they will buy anything. Not the *same* people over and over, but there’s a big trade in lists like that. The mother load is verified contact info and each contact verified to have made at least one purchase via <medium>. Lists like that get responses of 5-10%, they are sucker lists that have been proven to pay off.

The problem what else: these people are almost entirely people who are not really interested in the products, they want to talk to someone - and they want someone to talk to them, to *listen* to them. They are the bedridden, home-bound, the blind, the elderly, the alone, people with malfunctioning lives. The techniques are horribly simple - and horribly effective - so I won’t go into them...let’s just say that these people get robbed, whether they get their gear or not, and whether it “works” or not. Many of them are in shaky financial states, and over time, being hit by these predators can and does leave them penniless and homeless.

I *do* mean predators: it takes a cold and ruthless (SO)B to pull it off, and they make bank

Whitebeard, I wish you were making stuff up but the realities really are as horrible as you say. Manipulating deeply ingrained psyche triggers for profit does massively horrible things to you. I've noticed one of the quickest ways to destroy a man is to consistently give them money they are not earning. The spammer life is a combination of money not properly earned and harming others in the process.

I would not wish that life on anyone. Ouch. Be smart, accomplish worthwhile tasks daily. lol
