BioTubs?

I have seen some different takes of BigTokes biobuckets, but havent been able to find a thread pertaining to this:

Bio Tub. Its in the mills pride thread, 17th page. here is a quote:

"Damn, it's interesting you mention NIMBY. As much as I owe the Czechs for this grow, I also owe NIMBY for his super-simple take on Bio-"Buckets", the Bio-Tub! It couldn't be cheaper to setup, and couldn't be easier to maintain, provided you use RO water.

I'm on my 8th-9th week now without a reservoir change, don't own a PH meter, and only bought a Truncheon TDS meter a month ago, as I knew with the huge vege I needed, I wanted to push the plants to their limit on nutes. Awesome growth, beautiful, full, white roots, and branching/internodes everywhere again, with little or no maintenance. Setup includes: 8-10 gallon tub (6-8 inches in height), netpot filled with red lava rocks, and an $18 powerhead from Walmart Pet section, and @ 6 ft of air hose to connect to the powerhead. Total cost is @ $35, and setup takes minutes (and you don't need a freaking engineering degree to hook things up, and don't need to be concerned about leaks; the only way this tub's leaking is during an earthquake!). One tub can support two plants, and these two plants would easily, EASILY fill a "conventional" horizontal scrog screen in a C22 or C24 type cab (2 feet x 4 feet). Let me stress again, EASILY. Also, the system's almost completely silent, as there's only occasionally a bubbling sound (no 4-8 inch dropoff waterfall required). "

{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}

Now, does anyone have a step by step>/ Or any other information/pictures available>? I want to setup a c22 medi-cab and i LOVE biobuckets, but cant fit them well enough inside the cab . . . Any help would be appreciated.

I've been wanting to do something similar. I asked BigToke about my ideas and he was very stern that I stick to what he had outlined (like that waterfall) and whatever.

To make an actual "Bio-Bucket" then you do have to stick to the way he has made it.

But, I think I should do my idea anyways. I am going to use an airpump. What I was thinking about doing is using a 3 or 5 gallon bucket full of lavarocks and have my return lines go through that before going back to my res. I would still use lava rocks in my net pots.

The basic idea of a lot of disolved oxygen and lot of surface area for benificial bacteria still stays the same so I think it will work.

From what that person posted in the other forum it is supposed to be incredibly easy. I wanted to add my glass airstone to one of the bucklets or the res or something for the added boost, and then a large pump to keep it circulating. I think its very possible just takes a little effort. . . lemme know if you have any other ideas =) maybe we can work on this together =P

thanks for the post and good luck

Well, I'm currently doing a 2 bucket recirculating dwc in a c24 with an external res. I have room for one more bucket and I was thinking of having that in the middle of the other 2 dwc buckets. I would do my drain from the top of both dwc buckets into the middle bucket filled with lava rock. I would cut a few holes into the lid of my middle bucket and put some 90*'s on the holes to not let light in but allow venting.

I would drain the middle bucket about 1 inch up from the bottom. I think I'd put a small netpot over the drain to prevent lava rocks from lodging into the lines. The drain would obviously goto my res.

I've got 2 of those double micro pore air disfusers from Worms way. They are great.

But, what would make this a complete killer system would be to incorperate aquaponics with this all. The growth from that if done correctly could be amazing.

Very close JH, but we want it to be recirculating. The biotubs are nice because they have a huge space for our lovely roots, but we want to accompany the active culture in bio-buckets with the tubs. . . I aprpeciate the search for us, much thanks. It definately shows that the buckets work wonderfully =) thanks again

foez,i was thinking something like also. I was gonna use two lids, and cut a hole for a pc fan in both, in the lowest one i was going to use a polyethelen pre-filter, nothing that restricts air tho, and then have the fanontop with a huge pvc elbow on it. then i was going to have passive intake elsewhere on the cover. . . It does make sense in theory, but i just want to be sure i can fit this all in the cab =P space is annoying, but i think with the recirculating biotubs we could get some massive yield. . . i also want to try the "circular scrog" from the czechs, that would be insane. . .

thanks for the help JH and foez, lots of love

the bio tubs i used worked great, i never had a ph pen or tds meter and i got .5 grams per watt my first grow with 3 plants wich is pretty good i think. JH posted a link to it above.

Yes it looked very nice senseless, good run! Too bad about that second try =/

Now did you have an external reservoir too>? or did u just top it off when necessary with the 3 gallon bottle>?

i want to do biotubs soo bad, but i dont want to have an external res .. .

thanks for the posts

my first grow with bio tubs i maintained every bio tub individually and i diddnt have a reserviour or float valve so i had to add water every day or 2 to top it off. on my second grow that failed with the bio buckets i had a reserviour and a float valve.

right now im growing in BOTANICARE ReadyGro soil and getting as strong growth, if not stronger than the biotubs/buckets using the same brand nutreints. PBP

good morning from my cab

senseless,

do you have the same number of plants or more>?

just wondering cuz im still comparing different ideas before i actually build anything

thanks for the help

here is more information on Bio Tubs. You know you can usually find that old OG info by going google searches because it's all split up in different forums. nimby's threads always kicked ass his stealth was way back in the day, super simple and awesome.

http://www.*hg*420*.com/showthread.php?t=13242

REMOVE THE *'s from the URL. ICMAG blocks HG because.. it's all about the money.

OR

Just go to google and type 'Nimby Bio Tub' and go to the thread from HG I'd just repost it but the thread is interesting.
