biggest leaves curled down?

Got one of my plants in veg, around 83°f in the veg box, plenty of air flow. I watered them last night and one of them has its first set of leaves curled down. They are the biggest set of leaves. Is this from over watering? Should I worry about it?, the top of the soil has already dried out. Solution?

thanks,
ps. i'd search around, but im in a rush for time at the moment.

Both underwatering and overwatering can cause leaves to "curl' down.

Underwatered would be considered droopy due to lack of turgor while overwatered would be considered epistasis due to lack of dissolved oxygen due to to much water.

When leave curl (grip) instead of droop that can be considered the "claw" and is due to to much nitrogen or too high salts (EC) in the rhizosphere.

Thanks for the quick reply. Hmmm, yeah its distinctly curled like a claw the way you described it and its the very bottom leaves. How harmful is this to the plant? its only about 3.5 - 4 inches tall at the moment.

If the top of the soil has dried and it has this sympton then it;s prolly not overwatered so if indeed it is over N then a good flush will flush out the very highly mobile N and this would aslo hydrate the plant as well so flush with 2-3 time the soil volume of plain water and see how the plant responds.

It would be safer to just first give the plant a bit of water and see if the turgor doesn't straigten up. If it does it was dry, if it doesn't it was over nitrified and then a good flush would be in order.

Thanks again inflorescence. I'll may give it some water, but what happens if I leave it the way it is? Should I wait another day since I already watered it last night?

Now the tips of those leaves are turning yellow, the leaves are still curled, on one you can kinda see black/brown dots, but you really have to look at it under good light. Should I flush now?

you need to flush the plant ASAP

if you just fed it more nutes then you probably overfed at this point (burnt tips) and you want to flush out the high concentration of nutrients in the medium

if you water and check the water coming out of your pots (runoff)
then youll know whether the ph is the issue or the tds

either way flush the pots and let them recover from the overdose

Thanks for the info bro. Its the soil I'm using, Im such an idiot...first time growing. I never fed it. You live you learn I guess.

BTW, how long will it take for it to recover?, I just flushed 2 of them.

what soil brand?

it might actually be that your not supposed to feed them yet, only ph'd water is necessary for the first 2-3 weeks sometimes dependent on the soil

if the plants rootmass is able to handle the flushing (meaning if it is even drinking enough water so that it doesnt get overwatered from the flushing) then your plants should start uptaking the water over the next few days, and you can rewater a day two after that when the pots get light

then i would suggest watering a few times at 1/4 strength nutes then moving up to 1/2 strength after the plants are able to handle it

if you have a ph/ tds pen then make sure you flush until the runoff reads as close to your tap waters normal tds/ppm, HTH

Any chance you got bugs, bro? The black dots could be mites. I would check it out under a microscope and see if you see tiny ugly spiders with bulbous eggs on your leaves.

Could be mites, could be cal def starting from not enough calmag given and/or too low ph.

Pix would help a lot.
