Hello evryone :)

i am a litle bit confused about scrog lst and Top

a grower scrog , lst or Top the plant because of the distance of the grow box and the lamp from the plant or for better yield for example i want to grow purple#1 indoors and i want to have the bigger yield i can have , witch way is better to scrog the plant? Top ?, lst ?or leave it like the way it is? i have a lot of space on my grow box the space is not problem for me

thank you..:tiphat:

Scrog (screen of green) is a method to be used to keep as much of the plant the same level as possible, so you can maximize the light efficiency. While you are setting up a scrog, you are probably going to both top and LST the plant. Basically when you top a plant, you kill the main growth shoot so the plant puts energy into other parts. For example, I like to top my plants early on so that the two branches below it will create 2 tops rather than 1 single. LST is a method used to create more 'main' type colas. This works by plant hormones (auxins) telling the plant it needs a new top. In order to get your plant to produce these auxins, you want to take your top point and bend it down so it's no longer the highest point. The plant senses this and tries to turn other shoots into 'main' type colas, thus producing more overall. LST and topping work great with setting up a scrog because you control the shape/growth of the plant until you have ideal conditions, then flip to flowering.

can I add a question to this discussion? If I were to do the same thing, top, lst, and maybe scrog, would my 150w hps be sufficient or should I continue with my plans of buying a 600 hps?

600 watts hps is the most efficient bulb on the market today:fact
the only problem with this size of bulb is the heat it gives off,12 hours a day and 18 hours a day ! cooling will defo be a big concern and problem !
if you do go with this size ,a good idea, in fact a must, would be to spend the extra penny's and get the adjustable ballast /hps transformer ,which you will be able to turn up and down:600,400,250 watts, when ever you like or need.also saving you a fortune on electric ,you would save the extra price of the ballast in the first 1-2 months of use .this is all i have to say,so good luck and all the best for your future grows :) willyweed
more light= more weed for a competent grower, or it bloody should do,great genetics also help !

Top them early then LST them and then you scrog them. Then you stake them.
Rinse and repeat homie

thanks for the responses guys. I hate to hijack this thread but I do have two more questions. one of my plants is almost ready to pick but I'm holding off until my jewelers loupe gets here next week. it has seeds forming--hermie :( can I leave the seeds growing? how long before the seeds mature? I'm not good enough at this to pay $10 a seed yet so I'm hoping others have done this.

LOL go to radioshack and get something asap
Ive had trichs go from mostly clear with some cloudy to too much amber in less than a week and the pistils hadnt all receded or anything.
You will need to take a close look and get familiar with your strain before you get it down.
I wouldnt waste anytime growing from some random hermie plant

You dont HAVE to SCROG to get an even canopy. Just pinch, bend and/or tie down the branches as they grow so you get as even a canopy as you can.

I would top the plants first and let them grow out new shoots first. That way youll have something to train. If you just let them grow they will grow tall with one huge main cola and smaller buds on the side branches.

If you train them to have multiple tops you will have more main buds but they will be smaller than if you let them grow naturally. I dont see the allure of huge soda bottle sized colas. Youre going to break them down into smaller buds anyway and they are prime habitat for botrytis.

The key is to maximize the top bud sites exposure to the most intense light. You dont want anything to be shaded out. I prune the lower branches that dont get good light early in flowering. You should have an even canopy that fills the lights footprint. That will give you the most return.

Evenly providing the best light to the most potential bud sites and utilizing the lights footprint is only one part of the equation.

If all other environmental and biological needs arent "dialed in", you will not get the best return your plants are capable of.

If this is your first grow, dont expect huge yields. If you get .5g/w first time, your ahead of the pack.

Do not forget to prune the suckers on the bottom of your plants.
They make all the difference and can easily add 20 percent to your yeld.
Every pro grower I know does that now.

Hello tromeros. SOG is the most simple and grows the largest cola if it's that sort of strain. People get good yeilds running scrog, but large grows do well with sog. Different lights have different penetration too. LED doesn't go deep into a canopy as a hid, so people say. Lower buds still get dense with led so it's debatable. I don't like running one, two or four strains for a scrog. For me it's more about seeds germinating and going through those. Although scrog can be amazing for hydro. An even canopy has advantages. Buds are similar sizes, but harvest is more complex. LST is good for high sativa strains. Helps keep the sativa beast under control. A pure indica will likley do best with sog.

I am wondering if anyone tried tomato cages. Ever since I tried them, I will never do anything else. The easiest and the best training I ever done. Granted, it may be personal and could be different for everyone. This is just my contribution to this tread.

my 2 cents:D. top the plant at 4-6 weeks old allow for 1-2 weeks for growth to kick in again.
use a scrog net and weave the plant around it then let the puppys grow toward the light once at desired level use cable ties to hold down the buds, just use the scrog net as a bottom holder for the cable tie and walla!!!!!big fat juicy nuggets of pure green perfection. works a treat every time

I am approximately 5 days out from the chop. Normally my strain produce about 2 1/2 oz per plant.
I manipulate my ladies and push them to 3 1/2 - 4 oz mark.

Brake down all the actions that you do to your plants. Assign percentages to all of them. Then take a good look at each of the actions and think where you can improve. That was my way of progress.

Now, just some of them that I think anyone should be able to do:

Food plays a big role in quantity, CO2 plays a role as well but Technics that I employ that makes a big difference are topping and pruning.
Topping gives us additional colas up on top and pruning the bottom sukers gives the opportunity for the top colas to beef up.
I would say that those two techniques add additional 20 percent to overall yeald.
