BHO tips?

At long last, I received a HoneyBee eXtractor. I have a case of King Butane and some goods to use in it. What I could use is some tips on improving my end product. Some areas I'm wondering about:
1. They say to have your herb "dry as dust and ground fine". Others say to just grind it lightly and don't worry about getting it super dry. Input?
2. What's the best way to store the oil? How do you get it into a vial?
3. What's the best way to smoke it?
I've read what I could find on Overgrow, TY, and here and am trying to ask around. What I'm looking for is tips to make better oil and maybe to help avoid beginner mistakes.

i got my buds on my first bho extraction (with a homemade setup i dunno about the one your talking about) broken up as much as possible... i never did this again.

why?

more green in my honey!
i also let my buds dry, which i wouldn't really prefer because it lets the bho flow too much / in a more destructive way to the green.

i think when they are not moist, but not dry... kinda that springy state is when they are best (like after a good cure).

and break them up by hand, into individual calyxs, and you should have some golden bho.

also, i used colibri butane which i hear is the best, as for purities.

anyways i always stored mine on the plate i made it and just put syran wrap over it... the only reason to use a vial is if you have large amounts, and to get it in the vial it needs to be a bit warm to flow.

as for smoking it, i like to dab some on top of a bowl myself... or if you want a straight bho hit do some hotknifing

1. I have found that dry to really dry works best.

2. I store mine in the freezer, i can break it apart it's like taffy that way instead of gooey nastyness. To get it into the vial just scrape up the oil with a carpet stripper and use another razor to shave it into the vial.

3. if you keep it frozen it's prolly easiest to put it on a bowl , or smoke it in an oil pipe , if you keep it warm and gooey, maybe to stripe a joint.

but im sure there are lots of other ways to smoke the stuff...

might not want to freeze it in one of those tiny vials tho, might be tough to get out....i use a little jar instead of a vial.

Be carefull when screwing or unscrewing the lid on that HB extractor. They are plastic threads and i've heard of several people that have wound up with stripped threads.
Break up the material by hand and never grind it to a powder.
Dryness is more for dry scuffing than BHO. Butane will remove the goodness regardless. I've even extracted with fresh trim with good results.
Properly purged BHO will be stiff and not runny. mine usually comes out like rock candy when it's done.

That must be why my honey turned into a black tar, I started with brick green, pretty good, though. Didn't get much out but was afraid of mistake, so didn't want to waste any.lol What I got out though was potent, just not clear. Not sure what happened.
