I would say around 6.0 should be fine
I got better results than usual after applying some of your recommendations. Specifically, adding peroxide- that really made a difference.
Something I did that might be shareable is, instead of using portion cups, I used a couple of styrofoam egg cartons, one cotton swab per egg slot. Just make sure the egg carton doesn't leak before you load it up.
It's just easier to handle one egg carton than twelve portion cups.
