Best Window Box Design

I am trying to figure out the best/ most discrete way to run my exhaust and intake out of a window. I normally would mount a 2x4 box with black sheeting around it. Or just tape the plastic to the wall. I will be using a silencer as well.

Are there any better methods out there? I need to be as discrete as possible and I was considering just using a AC to avoid the situation all together.

I posted this in a few other threads recently

I bought my 6" duct that already had a flat black finish on the inside.
It helps immensely.

a couple other things I did to to keep it stealthy.

I put 1/2" plywood over the inside of the window opening, it had a tite seal against the clamshell trim that cases out the window opening so I didn't have to install any weather stripping to go between the plywood and the trim.
I cut a 6" hole in the plywood near the bottom of the window opening,
then I got a cardboard box 16x16x6" and cut a 6" hole in the bottom of the box that was still sealed shut.
and that hole was offset from the center of the cardboard box and it was about 2" from the edge.
I then I affixed the open end of the box on the plywood so the hole in the box was above, 180degrees opposite the hole in the plywood.
so that way you don't have a direct, straight exaust line from the duct going into the cardboard box then thru the hole in the plywood into the space between the window and the plywood.
think of it like a clock,
one hole in the box was at 12 O'Clock and the hole in the plywood was at the 6 O'Clock

now, before I put the plywood over the window opening I left the cheapo plastic mini blinds in the down position and they were not closed quite all the way and then left the window open about 4 inches.
so as your looking into the room from the outside all you see are the mini blinds in the down position
just like the rest of the windows.

you can hear air movement(barely) and only if your standing a couple 2-3ft from it on the outside and the air being pushed through the nearly shut blinds barely move from the air being passed through using a 6" inline elicent 309-cfm fan on a speed controller set on hi.
Its hooked to one 1000s light that doesn't run 100%
for it to do its job,
its probably only running at 70%-80% power during the heat of the day, less at night.

So, by mixing the air into two boxes,
the 16x16x6" box, that vents into another
3ftX3ftX4inch box, which is the space between the window jambs and the inside of the house the air movement is drastically reduced
its quiet and the 300+cfm blower doesn't make the blind move all over the place

i am going to run into the same problem. i am going to go with a Window A/C unit that i have modified! im going to rip out the fan and front radiator,and keep the back radiator intact,so it looks legit to the untrained eye! luckily i have a hvac certified friend,and he can pump the freon out for me! imma make a custom charcoal filter in the unit,and fasten my 8in fan to the window unit! like i a ninja i will leave no trace when i leave! i wish u luck in your adventures!

I have been searching the 'net all over for a thread like this! Good job!

I found this video that inspired me, but thanks to the gnome I might go even more basic and just use a flat sheet of MDF to cover the window w/o making a "true" box.

I use one of these..

I dont have a pic of it but you basicly put it in the window and then block out your window with wood or plastic to make it light proof.. Put a little hole for your vent near one of two fans and walla... YOu dont even need to turn it on because the preassure from your exhaust should spin your blades... its pretty damn stealth.

I recomend you get one that has two fans that can spin in opposit directions of each other simultaneous. IE one side exhausitng one side intake.. so that way you can use one side as intake to your grow if iyou are using a active intake.. Which I am planing on using an out door active intake this winter since it gets chilly outside and my window ac stops working..
