Best way to sprout feminized seeds?

I am going to be starting my first indoor groow soon using feminized seeds in organic soil.

I am wondering what would be the best way to sprout my seeds?

Do I plant them directly in the 2 gallon pots from the beginning? Or do I start them in small plastic cups or something and then transfer them once they get bigger?

I have heard that transfering plants from smaller pots to bigger pots can stress them.

But if I started in the 2 gallon pot from the beggining I'm worried the water might wash out the organic nutrients...

There are many different options for starting seeds. Typically gardeners don't start seeds in large pots.

You can get some small pots, beer cups, or seed starting trays, fill them with a light seed starting mix like peat moss and plant directly into those. The key is temperature and moisture level. Damp not soaked at 80 F

Or you can germinate your seeds before planting into your small pots, either with a moist paper towel or a cup of water placed in a warm place. Fold a paper towel 4 times place on a plate, moisten but not soaked place seeds inside place in warm place. Fill a cup with water drop seeds in, place in warm place.

Transplanting does not cause stress. They make small seed starting pots for a specific reason, mainly to reduce stress on seedling for the first few weeks of life.

Go to search - advanced search - titles only - search germination, there is alot of information on germination on the site.

I germed mine by filling a glass with some barely warm water, put seed in. Let sit somewhere warmish.

Next day/ 2 days, white sprout. Plant. Good to go.

Germ in what you grow in. If that's soil, germ in soil. Start with a small solo type cup and transplant later as needed. Warm, damp soil will neither freeze or dry out the seed. By the time the paper towel and water glass crowd see a tap root, you'll have a full blown seedling.

So that white sprout is the roots starting, right? So I would plant the white sprout downward?

And when do I turn on the 600watt HPS for vegging? As soon as I see green poking above the soil?

So I was walking through Wal-Mart yesterday and I saw they have these little platstic greenhouse things for sprouting seedlings. I believe the grow medium was made of peat moss.

Would I be fine using this wal-mart one? Or should I buy one from the local grow shop?

I know the wal-mart one will be cheaper but I want to make sure I do everything right.

Why dont you try some different methods. esp if you have bagseed to practice on!

I use paper towel method(unscented bog-roll) with a heated propagator. I get a tap-root within 24 hours everytime, sometimes less. Plant tap root down & gently cover, so you can just about see bean, place into heated propagator, go back next day & i always have a seedling. Thats around 48 hours to see the seedling up n growing(Cotyledon). Then switch on CFL or light of choice, lower light levels produced by CFL encourage rooting. Everytime ive tried to germ directly into medium of choice, it takes around 5-7 days to see any action, in the way of a seedling. Experiment & you will find your prefered method.
Constant warmth(heated propagator or heating mat), moisture(+ high RH) & darkness for germination, & the correct medium is the important part.(ie-seedling friendly). If you grow auto's its a real good idea to soak seed first. Google is your friend!
G'Luck man!

I recently created my own feminized seed using the colloidal silver method and germinated them with the good old wet paper towel trick.

THEN TRANSPLANTED INTO SEED RAISING MIX

But like Freezerboy said, minimal disturbance of the roots is best, for any kind of plant.

However cannabis is a tough plant and can handle stress. My strain does, maybe not some others.

Still haven't decided what method I'm going to use yet...

But if I do decide to plant striaght into soil, would it be okay to plant the seed directly into FoxFarm's orgainc soil mix? Or do I need to buy a specific soil for seedlings?

I start mine in FFOF, in 3.17 gal. pots, i dont use the smaller pots or paper towel thing, seems like a waste of time messing with them.
I have done the other ways, but it is just easier to put the seed in the pot it is going to live in and water it. I would try differant ways and just find the one you like, that works for you.:gday:
