first you will need a matchbox and a small piece of some fine sandpaper.
you put the seeds into the match box with the piece of sand paper on a wall and shake them for 10-20 seconds. that way you will allow them to crack more easly.

then you put them in a glass of water (room temp.) for 6-12 hours. because older seeds need more humidity to germinate.

then you use your normal method for germinating seeds or you can put them straight into moistened medium close to the surface. (soil mix/coco/rockwool/jiffy's)

I've had succes with older seeds.
Good luck!

I was going to try to avoid pointing out the typo as it could be a spelling err.

I don't know if it's the best, but I never use the paper towel method where you put the seeds in a damp paper towel and keep it warm for about 72 hours. At that point a tap root may appear and the seed+root is placed in the soil.

I always plant directly in the soil, but I have 1000's of seeds and losses are just that. A lost seed.

I do the same, sometimes using soil, sometimes in jiffy's... and with good seeds I get over 80-90% germ rate all the time. Only thing is that I put them for 6 hours in a glass of water to get moist quicker before puting them into the grow medium. That way seedlings appear faster, best results were about 80% of them above the soil in under 48 hours with some 6 months old seeds.
