Best way to collect runoff???

Im having a huge brainfart with how to collect runoff.

Im using gal grow bags and I cant seem to find anything that will make collecting runoff easy. Im using a 4x4 grow tent and only have a 2x4 space that is available for soil.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do? I've considered shelving and all sorts of shit, but can't seem to figure out what to collect the water with!

Build a flood table, buy a flood table, or use a shop vac. I use shelving to make sure the pots get proper drainage, but it seems most people don't worry about it.

If you don't want to spend a lot, you can always use a couple of dutch leach trays, and just elevate them a little bit, and sit them on top of something sturdy. Then you can collect all the runoff into 1 or 2 buckets. The leach trays will fit 2 gal grow bags, with 4-5 in each tray, depending on how you space it.

I have a dr120 tent, which is also 4x4, so here's a pic for an example.

Edit: forgot, the trays run about $14/each online, including the fittings.

If you are near a Lowe's or Home DePOT....they sell black plastic tubs for hand mixing concrete in. I bought one of those and cut off the rolled rim and it fit my cab like a glove, they even have a much larger size if you're larger scale, I think they cost around $8-10 USD

I know EXACTLY which one you are talking about. How did you position is after cutting off the rim? did you just place the plants inside of it? Were they just sitting in their own runoff?

I need a way to have the plants OFF of the runoff and still collect... Pics would be awesome bro.

Hi there i have made some thing similar to the pic in the link but my fiberglass sheeting hangs over the end and i have a gutter to catch runoff which leads to a bucket
Or my new one i have it on the floor with 6" pvc waterpipe to catch the runoff with a small fishtank pump in one end to drain water out off the tube that way i gain an extra foot of height

a good tip i used more supports as the first i made dipped in the middle when the plants were on it

Best thing i ever made it used to take me 2 hours to water and collect runoff

Here is the link

you can make it to any size hope this helps

Sorry, my camera is on vacation...I am not. :)

My cab is raised, so after cutting off the rims I just deflect the side of the container downward and drain into a waste pail. I was toying with the idea of putting in a small drain fitting (from the plumbing aisle) so I could drain the runoff into my sump automatically. At one point, I elevated the pots onto PVC 'runners' made from PVC pipes cut to the right dimensions. I am a small scale self sufficiency operation with soil, so my plants will sit in the water for 10 -15 minutes and then get drianed. It works out very well for me but I figured if you didn't source the black tubs yet, these are great start. Hydro store was charging $50 for the same thing with a small fitting!

Good luck!

Thanks for the input everyone.
I was going to purchase some corrugated fiberglass and make the frame out of wood, but I found my answer at the hydro store. I was also stoned and lazy... :p

I just ended up purchasing these plastic mesh containers that goes inside another solid plastic res. All I have to do is water and pour out the overflow from the bottom res. Its a little more work than having the runoff automatically drip down, but I had to get this going asap!
