sup guys,
I got me a rootmat and a temperature controller and was wondering what is the best temperature to clone using peat pellet?
I was told 22 then 27 so im kinda confused. Also do I have to soak the peat pellets in with a ph of 6.5 24 hours before using them?
thx

The biggest keys in successful cloning are the amount of moisture in the plug, temperature and lighting. Always check the plugs and add a couple drops of water if they begin to feel dry, but do not overwater as you will rot the stem. I place the meat thermometer in the dome and keep the temps between 70 and 75. To much warmth will cause the stems to rot at the base and you can lose the entire lot very quickly. Lastly, I keep one 24 watt bulb, 8 inches over the top of the dome and use 18/6 lighting scheduale.

I keep the air at about 70 degees Farenheit, and the root area at about 78 degrees. I find that if you're too much above that you're gonna be looking at mold, stem rot, other negatives. I put the humidity dome over them totally for the first half day after cutting/planting them. Then I crack it open, and leave it propped up, so that there's air flow, but retains some humidity. Someone on here put it well recently, Clones won't root if they don't have to.

As far as stabilizing mediums goes, it's a good idea to soak whatever the medium is (peat pellets, rockwool, etc.) in water ph adjusted to what you will be growing with. Many 'neutral' materials are often slightly basic or acidic. Measure the ph of your water source, soak the cubes, then measure the run-off. If there is any difference, it is in the substrate. Hope this helps.

Stay safe,
