Best Tea Sprayer Ever!

I recently acquired a Chapin model #1949 concrete sprayer...

I had searched a LOT of forums here and found no definitive answer. I don't spray poisons in my veggie garden or my secret garden, but I do spray organic mixtures on both...

So I googled all my organic gardening websites and saw this one.. Sure glad it's the one I bought.

Having just started making aerated compost tea, i knew my shitty little plastic, 2 qt., plastic, pump sprayer wasn't gonna cut the mustard. For a good spray of compost tea, you need a sprayer that won't clog up with particles up to 400 microns (4/10ths of a millimeter) . That's the size you need so the beneficial nematodes in your tea can reach the garden without being killed or clogging your sprayer...I use a regular kitchen strainer with a handle to pour my compost tea thru, and anything that gets thru the strainer will go thru the Chapin #1949..

The Chapin concrete sprayer, pumps up at about 10 to 40 lbs. pressure and the 1/2 gallon per minute nozzle end will allow all the good stuff to pass thru the wand and reach your plants and soil..This sprayer is built in the USA, made of metal, and holds 3 1/2 gallons. It's a bit heavy, about 30 lbs. when filled, but the hose and wand are long enough that you set the tank on the ground beside you and spray away!

This is the BEST garden sprayer I have ever owned... If you need to spray an acre or more this isn't gonna work for you, but you folks with an average size veggie garden and average size secret garden, are gonna find that this sprayer is just the ticket!

How about a pic of the spray pattern. I have been looking for a sprayer that does not have that "hole" in the middle of the spray pattern. Looking for a fine mist.

If your an outdor guy PD, this is the one for you....
Like I said, it weighs about 30 lbs when full, but the fan spray it puts out is awesome...
I'll try to get a pic of the spray pattern for you, but let me say that my girls are about 6 ft tall and 5 foot wide, and this morning I sprayed compost tea on them and was able to coat the bottom of the leaves and the top of the leaves of each girl in a couple of minutes each.. I mean each girl was thoroughly drenched in a nice fine spray...
The 1/2 gallon per minute nozzle doesn't necessarily really spray quite that fast (which is good in my opinion) It depends on how hard you pump the thing up...
It's built solid and should last for many, many years...

That handle is what I'm looking for....

Been using my broke plastic one gallon sprayer. The handle broke off (who the heck came up with that fork design!!) But that metal integrated handle is what I've been searching for!!

How did it hold up during the season?

Glad to see some new interest in this thread..

Hatch: the sprayer worked perfectly for my compost tea...
I never got a picture of the spray pattern, but I assure you, it is a wide, consistant spray of a nice fine mist...Like with any other good tool, you should find that after using it a couple times, you will discover how it works best for you... The pump on top allows you to pressurize it, more or less, to suit your needs...There are not a lot of parts to it. It is simplistic, yet works very well. The can is galvanized steel with an epoxy type paint coating, and the handle and spray wand is solid brass constuction...

This tool is built for use in the concrete industry, and build to handle some very caustic chemicals which concrete finishers use..

I used it last season about 6 or 7 times and was very happy with it... I rinse it out well after each use, and let it air dry before putting it away...You don't wanna let "tea" dry up on anything but your plants, as it will make a real gunky mess...

Overall, I am very happy with it, it's built to last a long, long time, and i can't wait to use it again starting in about another month from now...

I would "High-ly" recommend this one!

One more point about this sprayer that I'd like to make to Hatch,
is that while the can is heavy gauge, painted galvenized steel, and the wand is solid brass construction, the black handle on the top, which is used for pumping and for carrying the sprayer, IS made of plastic... However, it is a very hard, high quality plastic.

After carrying this thing around last summer, filled with 3 1/2 gallons of tea, and weighing around 30 lbs., I had NO doubts that this handle will hold up to the job of carrying and pumping up the pressure...
Also, the pump mechanism itself, which is part of the handle assembly, is made entirely of brass parts, with rubber O-rings...

Saw the gasket replacement kits. The plastic handle is totally cool, it's thick molded stuff. Not the thin injected brittle crud.

Going to order it and also support a charity. If you use the 'zon there is a "smile" version were % of purchase is donated to a charity. Support my wife's non-profit for kids.

I have used it a bunch so far. Not having to fill it all the way up yet. I'm happy with my purchase.

Just got the smaller 2 gal blue one, upgraded with the extension tube.

Have a battery powered 3 gal per min setup for when things get major.

What size nozzle do you have on the 2 gallon sprayer?
I'm using the 1/2 gallon per minute nozzle on my #1949, as it doesn't clog up when I spray my tea... I strain my tea now thru a 5 gallon, nylon mesh, paint strainer bag...It seems to collect all the organic matter, but allows the micro organisms to pass thru it...I dont know the micron size of the bag, but it appears to be about 1/2 millimeter...
